Finding the right staff

Finding the right staff for any company is always a major challenge there are lots of factors that need to be considered when hiring staff and many dangers as well and it's important to be very careful when selecting the right staff for your company.

The first question to ask is who do we need to hire?
Is it the same type of person who may have just left?  It is somebody who can get on with other people?  It is somebody who works well with customers?  Is somebody who can do a lot of work?  do you need a jack of all trades or a master of one skill?

second question is how much pay should be set?
The amount of the pay and financial compensation will determine what type of candidates you attract to your job advert, clearly the higher amount will attract more candidates with better skills and experience.

so you have to ask yourself the other question do I really need a person with that level of skill and experience to do the job also a candidate with higher skills and experience will be looking for more challenging work and it may be the case that the candidate may only last for a short period of time and therefore you may well be faced with the same challenge of finding another person again very soon.

In some cases it may be better to hire a slightly less skilled and experienced person so that you can then develop the skills and with the view that they may stay on longer period time with the company and this is why the company is higher graduates and trainees to develop them and so may be an option for you.

The third main question to ask is will this person fit and work well with other employees in the company? This is quite critical because hiring the wrong person who argues and is confrontoational with existing employees may cause some of them to leave and find another job or worst cause productivity to fall absenteeism and lateness to rise.

Sometimes it might be better to hire a person on a temporary basis to see if they fit in well, can do the job and cope with the pressures before offering a permanent job, this is nowadays becoming a more common practice in the uk.
