Subcontract Administrator

Subcontracts Administrator required for a start no later than the 1st March 2017 for a long term contract with a defence client.



The role is responsible for the best-value sourcing equipment, tools, raw material, COTS/MOTS parts, build to print parts, and services required to successfully deliver a Defence or related programme.

Focusing on contract execution the position will manage the interface with the internal programme team and technical staff which may require meeting more than one programme need and synchronising the demand on a supplier.

The role will undertake all the sourcing activities (including responding to changes in requirement) to meet the programme need dates, in addition to challenging cost and quality requirements.


Engaging with various programmes potentially in different life-cycle positions, the focus is on the application of best practice Procurement and Commercial skills, based on past experience and knowledge to achieve excellent results across a range of requirements/categories.

Required Skills
An excellent understanding of commercial and procurement best practice and its application
Strong commercial skills with the ability to analyse and negotiate best value agreements
Very good communication skills and proven ability to effectively manage stakeholders at all levels
Highly motivated with a record of achieving cost saving / cost avoidance targets
Ability to work assignments with minimal appreciable direction
The ability to respond to challenges creatively
Experience in sub contract management
Knowledge and experience of using MRP systems in both project development and production environments
Proficient in the use of MS Office applications
MCIPS or actively studying towards achieving membership

Desired Skills
Experience in mechanical, electrical and specialist materials procurement
Experience in buying from engineering drawings, statements of work and technical requirements specifications
Bachelor's degree in a business/scientific/technical discipline
Knowledge/experience of process improvement methodologies
Working knowledge of SAP systems, specifically with regard to procurement functionality
Working knowledge of programme management systems - to specifically include Earned Value and Integrated Master Schedule applications
Knowledge of strategic sourcing, category management, and advanced procurement techniques/tools
SC or DV clearance
