Currently recruiting on behalf of a solicitor's firm based in Goole.

My client is looking at recruiting a Medico - Legal Assistant to join their team.

The prime role of the medico-legal assistant is to provide support to the medico-legal advisor, enabling the department to operate at optimum efficiency.

Please be aware, this is a FTC of 10 months, possibly 12 months.


  • To attend upon clients by telephone or in person to take instructions

  • To prepare correspondence and documents, such as medical chronologies and reports, for the Medico-Legal Advisor, through audio-typing and word processing working to agreed formats.

  • To receive medical records and associated instructions from the fee-earners, make a record of them and note deadlines and special instructions, informing the Medico-Legal Advisor accordingly.

  • To sort, paginate and index medical records in the agreed format, taking note of any specific instructions, when received from a fee-earner.

  • To record new client decisions at weekly Clinical Negligence meeting.

  • To undertake filing of law reports and other articles/files as necessary.

  • To prepare mail and enclosures for collection by the Administration Assistant.

  • To undertake photocopying of medical records and other documents as required.

  • To check own work to minimise errors and avoid corrections by fee-earners.

  • To provide support to other secretaries as required.

  • To attend to clients both in person and on the telephone when required to do so and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm's standards for client care.


  • Preferably with some training in secretarial practice.

  • Good word-processing and audio-typing skills.

  • Preferably previous experience as a legal secretary or experience of working in an alternative professional office.

  • GCSEs at Grade “C”, or the equivalent qualification, including English.

  • Methodical and organised.

  • Good client care and communication skills including good telephone manner.

  • The ability and desire to learn new skills.
