Teacher/Tutor - Motor Mechanics

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Qualified Teacher / Lead Education Worker to teach Motor Mechanics, joining a special independent Care Farm for children aged 9-19 in Maiden Bradley.

You would be teaching Motor Mechanics to young people with emotional behavioural difficulties, complex Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and challenging behaviour.

Salary: £18,000 - £28,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

Hours: 37.5 hours a week - 52 weeks of the year.

About the Care Farm:

This is part of a long established, well regarded provision offering a range of children's services and a team that has strong experience and skills working with children who have a variety of care needs including, those that have experienced trauma, learning disability, educational exclusion, high risk behaviours and mental health issues.

Outdoor learning isn't a subject or a topic, it's a way of teaching.

The Care Farm offers ‘hands-on' learning and accreditation opportunities for children that are struggling to achieve and enjoy in a more formal education setting.

The Care Farm environment successfully re-engages children with their learning, shows their capabilities and importantly changes their relationship with their own learning from one of failure to one of success.

They strongly believe that all their young people should be given opportunities to achieve nationally recognised awards, accreditation and qualification through their work and experiences and work on the farm and, as such, offer:

  • Land Based Study - BTEC and Functional Skills, NPTC - Entry Levels 2 & 3

  • Skills for Working Life - ASDAN, Entry Level 2 & 3

  • Horticulture and Conservation - AQA and Entry Level 2 & 3

As working farms, our activities are diverse and offer a range of services and opportunities including:

  • Equine assisted learning and horse management.

  • Animal care.

  • Horticulture learning and therapy.

  • Specific and day projects including bush craft, lambing, falconry and nature arts and crafts.

The Role and Responsibilities:

  • To participate with other colleagues in the development of appropriate syllabuses, materials, schemes of work and session plans, which should engage, stimulate and challenge students of all abilities, and should cater for all learning styles.

  • To ensure that all sessions are planned, prepared and delivered with clear differentiation to cater for students of all abilities and backgrounds whilst ensuring individual student progress.

  • To take responsibility for particular aspects of the subject(s) in consultation with the Head.

  • Be accountable for student's attainment, progress and outcomes.

  • Communicate effectively with parents with regard to pupils' achievements and well-being.

  • To share in the corporate responsibility for the development and well-being of all students.

  • Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour which are expected within the Farm community based on mutual respect between students and staff.

Experience Required:

  • Degree or appropriate qualification in relevant subject area.

  • A proven track record of developing young people with SEN.

  • Experience in working outdoors and with challenging behaviour.

  • To aspire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner.

  • Strong current subject knowledge.

  • A willingness to develop.

  • An effective communicator with exceptional interpersonal skill.

  • Proven successful experience of working with children in an educational setting.

  • Experience of working with autistic children.

  • Have an understanding of the importance of lesson planning, IEPs and learning objectives to contribute to learning.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of the school's Health and Safety policy.

  • Understanding of and commitment to work within the scope of the school's equal opportunities policy.

  • PGCE or equivalent is desirable.

  • A good level of English and Maths.

  • Level 3 Award in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

  • Level 3 Certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

  • Level 3 Certificate in cover supervision of students in schools.

  • Level 3 Diploma in specialist support for teaching and learning in schools.

  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (TA4 / HLTA).

Additional needs:

  • Full manual driving licence.
