Benefits Assessment Officer, Nuneaton
A vacancy has opened within a local authority in Nuneaton for a Benefits Assessment Officer to administer claims for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Free School Meals and School Clothing Grants in accordance with Benefits Service standards, targets and objectives.

The Role
The main focus of the role is to assess applications for a number of benefits, including housing benefit, council tax benefit and free school meals.

Other tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that all claims are processed accurately and within the targeted timescales by correctly calculating income and rent details and inputting the personal details of claimants onto the computer system.

- Amending, cancelling and suspending benefit claims effectively, to avoid underpayment/over payment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

- Ensuring that Housing and Council Tax Benefit has been correctly assessed and paid to the claimant by cheque or credited to their rent/or Council Tax account.

- Liaising with the Housing Department, Housing Societies, DWP and the Benefits Agency, in order to facilitate the quick and accurate assessment of Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit.
- Providing support, guidance and specialist advice to the Customer Services Centre on all aspects of Housing & Council Tax Benefits.
- Referring any suspicions of internal or external fraud or abuse of the Benefit system and/or Council Tax system to the Fraud Prevention Team.

The Candidate
In order to apply for this role, it is essential that you have recent working experience of CIVICA Open Revenues and have the following experience:
- Experience of working within Housing and Council Tax Benefits or related field
- Comprehensive understanding of the Housing Benefits and Council Tax Benefits regulations
- Understanding of available Education and Welfare Benefits
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Physically able to perform the functions of the post

The Contract
This is a two month, full time contract, working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.

There is a chance the contract will be extended.
