Lead Product Manager (Media) - London
£75 to £90k
My client, one of the UK's largest media publishers are looking for a 2 x Lead Product Managers, reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer to drive their innovation products and to lead a new user journeys team responsible for acquiring new users, developing relationships with them and building loyalty to our titles and products.
This is a wide-ranging role covering the entire user journey from first encounter with our products through to engagement, active involvement and brand advocacy.
They are an award-winning digital portfolio comprising more than 50 news titles, ranging from national publications such as Mirror Online and large regionals such as Manchester Evening News to smaller county, city and specialist titles.
We are experiencing phenomenal online growth, and the acquisition of Local World in 2015 has strengthened our presence in the local markets.
With close to 140m monthly unique users across our digital portfolio, we're well on our way to becoming the dominant local player online in the UK, and we're actively pursuing new opportunities for content-led products.
The role reports to the Chief Product Officer, Innovation Products.
The product development team is based in Canary Wharf, but the role may also involve some travel to our regional offices.
The product manager sets out an integrated strategy for acquiring and retaining users.
They bring in new users by optimising our products for search and social discovery, keep them coming back through
habit-building products such as alerts, social following, email newsletters and mobile apps, with the ultimate goal of converting them to registered users contributing opinions and story ideas.
They understand the triggers that move users through the discovery-engagement-loyalty funnel and track conversion at each stage.
Required key skills (functional/technical)
Business acumen and leadership, including ability to make decisions or recommend a course of action to senior managers and stakeholders
Can identify market trends and form a strategy based on user research, data analysis and business objectives
Can gather qualitative and quantitative input from end users through focus groups, surveys, A/B and multivariate testing, and analysis of customer actions and feedback
Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to analyse and optimise user journeys, specify and implement measurement frameworks, conduct funnel analysis and track long-term user loyalty
Keen to experiment and make use of agile and lean methodology in a self-organising team
Committed to measuring product performance to evaluate how well the product is serving the purpose it was made for, solving the right problems for users and creating business value
Degree-level education or equivalent experience
3-5 years in product management, ideally including roles in media companies
Experience with user-centered and hypothesis-driven lean working practices
Track record of taking products or product features from concept to user-facing launch.
Experience managing complex, mature products in multi-stakeholder environments
Knowledge of SEO, social media and identity management systems
We're looking for a passionate, specialist, experienced product manager who is committed to taking the product forward.
This is not a line management role and won't be right for anyone who is looking to build a team rather than manage a product.
It isn't a project or programme management role, either.
We expect our product managers to be organised, and to work effectively with their delivery team, but we want people who can figure out which issues to prioritise and how to address them, rather than deliver against a predetermined strategy and roadmap.
