Curriculum Area Manager (Aeronautical Engineering):

Provide effective curriculum leadership and ensure that the standards of teaching and learning are the highest in the sector.

The post holder will have accountability for the safety in their area, control of budgets, management of staff and other resources and will ensure the effective delivery of a high quality learning experience for students.

The post holder will also have responsibility for achieving targets in relation to the recruitment of learners and the retention and achievement of those learners.

CAMs will undertake teaching responsibilities commensurate with the requirements of the post, in a way which demonstrates the high standards expected of colleagues and will have CMT responsibilities as a duty manager.

Key Roles & Accountabilities

Curriculum Planning and Development

Working closely with the Director of Curriculum and Curriculum Area staff:

Be fully accountable for the development of a curriculum plan for the area and develop, regularly review and monitor this plan to ensure it is consistent with the College mission, strategic objectives, government priorities and local/regional need;

Ensure that all courses are appropriately funded and resourced and that all CIS data is accurate for your area and that the data meets the needs of internal and external requirements;

Liaise and work collaboratively with all appropriate other managers and key staff across the College, e.g.

Director of Employer Engagement, Directors of Curriculum to effectively deliver the curriculum;

Secure the active participation of community stakeholders and employers in terms of the development and delivery of the curriculum;

Have an active involvement and accountability for equality and diversity and environmental sustainability within your curriculum area;

Resource Management

Ensure the effective and efficient deployment and performance of staff, consistent with skills/expertise, contractual conditions, college policies and procedure and the collective agreement;

Ensure effective processes for team communication and plan in accordance with the management calendar;

Ensure effective systems for team communication and plan in accordance with the management calendar;

Ensure that Staff Appraisal area occurs in a timely manner in line with college policies and that all staff have a personal development plan;

Adhere to the college protocols in the timetabling of learning with a focus on learner needs;

Manage all devolved budgets in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum;

In collaboration with the Facilities and Estates Manager, ensure all accommodation and equipment is appropriate for the learners in the Curriculum Area;

Ensure safe working practices are in place in the area;

Teaching and Learning

Provide innovative leadership in terms of teaching and learning, to ensure new teaching strategies and best practice are utilised across the Curriculum Area;

Manage efficiently the use of appropriate performance indicator data (e.g.

in year retention, attendance etc) to further enhance the performance of the area and taking action in relation to this as necessary;

Manage academic submissions as necessary, for validating and awarding bodies;

Ensure that learner's progress is monitored and that impactful ILPs which stretch learners to improve their target grades are in place;

Ensure student information is correctly reported through CIS including learning aims, achievement and changes to learner information including withdrawal, transfer and programme completion throughout the learner journey;

Manage the process of interviewing and assessing student's suitability for their chosen course; giving impartial and professional advice, which will meet their educational and vocational needs;

Support and Cross College Teams

Work with all cross college and support teams to ensure that there is effective management of the curriculum and ensure the best outcome for students;

Liaise with the Marketing team to ensure there is effective marketing of the area including written promotional material, website content, active involvement in promotional activity, attending promotional events including visiting schools, employers and other organisations.
