Council Tax Officer

Council Tax Officer, Cambridge
A local authority in Cambridge are recruiting for an experienced Council Tax Officer, with specialist working knowledge of processing council tax work through Northgate and DMS Information @ Work.

The Role
The main focus of this role is to be responsible for the effective and efficient carrying out of all duties in connection with the assessment and maintenance of Council Tax accounts, including identification and registration of liable persons, discounts, discount disregards, exemptions and disabled relief.

This will include the following tasks;
- To ensure that all applications for Council Tax exemptions, discounts, discount disregards, disabled relief and benefits, are verified and correctly processed, and where appropriate, refunds & transfers, entering onto the Council Tax computer systems (i-world) and, where appropriate, ensuring at all times individuals are notified of the outcome of such applications.
- To ensure that all documentation and records relating to the assessment of Council Tax liability, including property exemptions, discounts, discount disregards, disabled relief, refunds & transfers are kept up-to-date and maintained on a daily basis.
- On receipt of a returned Council Tax demand notice, to liaise with other Councils and make full use of all associated computer systems in order to input, verify and obtain information on all matters relating to the occupancy of properties in Cambridge for Council Tax.

The Candidate
To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have the following experience:
- A minimum of two years within a Council Tax role
- Knowledge of Northgate / iWorld and DMS Information @ Work
- To have and maintain a sound knowledge of all aspects of Council Tax Legislation and a basic understanding of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.



The Contract
This is a full-time position, working 37 hours per week on an initial 3-month contract.
