SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work in one of our partner SEMH schools in Salford.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing guidance, support, and education to children in need.

Your primary responsibility will be to assist and mentor children in various areas of their development, including social and emotional development, behaviour support and educational progression.

Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them in managing their emotions, behaviours, and interactions within the school environment.


• Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to implement individualized support plans for students with SEMH needs, adapting strategies to meet their specific requirements.


• Assist in the development and delivery of tailored interventions to support students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and emotional regulation techniques.


• Foster positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and mentor, and providing encouragement and guidance to help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.


• Support students during times of distress or crisis, employing de-escalation techniques and providing a safe and supportive environment for them to express their feelings and concerns.


• Collaborate with colleagues to promote a positive and inclusive school culture, organizing activities and initiatives to raise awareness of SEMH issues and reduce stigma.


• Monitor and track student progress, maintaining accurate records of interventions and outcomes, and providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.


• Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.

Requirements:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs in an educational setting (preferred).


• Understanding of SEMH conditions and their impact on learning and behaviour.


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.


• Empathy, patience, and resilience in supporting students through challenging situations.


• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing insights and ideas to support student progress.


• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
