The school is looking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic individual to undertake the role of Student Services Manager, responsible for managing a team of people who support pupils in their learning, and work with other professionals around the family and parents to enable pupils to be the best that they can be.


The person we are looking for will have the experience, skills and knowledge to fulfil the requirements of the job description and person specification, including:



  • In depth knowledge and understanding of issues affecting young people not attending mainstream school and their families, including barriers to learning and ways of supporting young people to overcome those barriers and achieve their full potential.

  • Experience of leading on the planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation of both structured and informal education sessions with groups of young people, that link into a programme of personal and social development.

  • Experience of identifying the needs of young people and using appropriate and effective interventions to meet that need.

  • Experience of using effective monitoring systems to monitor and measure the educational, personal, social and emotional development of young people.

  • The ability to liaise and communicate effectively; and work collaboratively with staff as well as other professionals from a range of agencies, young people and parents.

  • Experience of supporting teachers in delivering formal, structured programmes of work and continuing this work in their absence if necessary; and advising and supporting teachers in assisting young people in their pastoral, social and welfare matters and in dealing with discrimination and equalities.

  • Experience of managing, leading, motivating and developing staff and staff teams successfully.

  • The ability to intervene in difficult situations and challenge young people in an appropriate manner, promoting positive attitudes and behaviours.

  • A willingness to work the core hours of education provision (8.45 am to 3.45pm) to fulfil the statutory requirement of 25 hours education; and as directed by the Senior Leadership Team, to work outside the core hours of education, within the school holidays, as required.

  • A knowledge of procedures relating to the safeguarding of young people and the willingness to undertake relevant training when required and accept responsibility for the discharge of duties on all staff effectively to safeguard young people.


All staff appointed to the school can be asked to work at any of the schools across the city at the discretion of the Headteacher.

The successful candidate will most likely be based at one of or central or South Manchester sites depending on experience.


The school provides full time education for pupils between 11-16 who are permanently excluded, at risk of permanent exclusion or otherwise cannot access a mainstream curriculum.

Our aim is to match provision closely to the needs of individual children and young people.

We see the needs of all our pupils as centring on their capacity to learn and make progress.

We have provision in 5 of our own centres across the city and commission further placements with Alternative Providers in a wide variety of settings.
