Position Summary:


Responsible for all analytical services and functions for quality and product development teams.

Evaluates and implements new test standards as well as responsible for developing and maintaining internal test methods.

Participates or leads relevant committees as a representative for Carboline (ASTM, AMPP, ISO, etc.) as well as giving presentation at various conferences.




Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate analytical requests and provide factual based results
  • Develop new internal test methods as needed.
  • Evaluate new test methods from outside sources.
  • Carboline representative on various committees (ASTM, AMPP, ISO, etc.)
  • Contribute to research programs of others through communications and participation in technical work groups and design teams.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals within time, quality and budget constraints.

    Utilize initiative to keep projects on track.
  • Coordinate work of others, anticipate, ad resolve priority conflicts.
  • Supervise efforts of chemists and technicians.
  • Acquire and maintain technical expertise in coatings industry and its technologies.

  • Understand and follow safety, technical, and quality procedures using Carboline or industry standards.

    Train others as required.

    Assure subordinates are trained and utilize appropriate procedures.
  • Communicate and verify technical information directly to various departments, suppliers, or customers.
  • Work with hazardous materials.

    Capable of understanding and using appropriate information and personal protective equipment.

    Train subordinates or others and assure their compliance.
  • Maintain clean, safe working areas.

    Assess working condition of equipment.

  • Alerts others to deviation, hazards, or quality issues.

  • Maintain current and up to date new product development files in compliance with most recent ISO procedures.
  • Take an active role in hazard recognition and injury prevention by following all safety rules & regulations and immediately report all injuries and incidents to your supervisor.
  • Follow all environmental rules and regulations to ensure hazardous materials and waste are managed in an environmentally responsible manner
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Commit to the Company's safety and quality programs

Requirements:

  • 4-year BS Degree in Chemistry, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 3 years Chemistry experience.

Physical Requirements:


Lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to chemicals including but not limited to: Amines, Polyamides, Isocyanates, Epoxies, Alkyds, Acrylics, and certain inorganic compounds.

Personal protective equipment would be utilized.

Must pass annual respirator medical evaluation and pulmonary function test as required by OSHA.
