The role
The Fugro Marine Environmental team within the Marine Site Characterisation business line is looking for an experienced and driven Senior Marine Environmental Scientist with a focus on benthic habitats, to join the reporting team based in either our Portchester office or Edinburgh's Heriot Watt University campus on a fixed term contract.
The Marine Environmental team specialises in worldwide environmental site characterisation and environmental monitoring.
The data we collect enables our clients and regulatory organisations to fully understand the effects of developments and activities in the coastal and marine environment.
This is a pivotal role which will include training and mentoring a team of Environmental Scientists, analysing seafloor photographic data collected using AUVs, ROVs and drop-down video, quality control of seafloor photographic data analysis, providing technical input into innovation projects, analysing multi parameters datasets including photographic data, macrofauna data and physico chemical data, producing and quality control of high quality technical reports.
Your key responsibilities will include ensuring work is of the highest standard and quality, training and appraisals, preparation of environmental technical reports utilising mapping software, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
You will ensure all activities are carried out to company specific standards and are in line with our QHSSE policies.
Who we're looking for
Essential
BSc or MSc in Marine Science, Environmental Science or relevant equivalent;
Experience of writing and quality control of habitat assessments;
Experience of benthic species ID and sensitive habitat assessments;
Experience in mentoring personnel;
Good Microsoft Office and GIS capabilities;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Proven ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable
Experience of intertidal/nearshore/offshore environmental survey techniques;
Experience of marine macrofauna identification and/or physical and chemical analysis;
Experience of statistical analysis.
