Senior Finance System Developer

Job Description:

A fantastic opportunity to join our client's high performing Finance teams during an exciting period of transformational change for the firm.


Working in the Finance Solutions team in the Actuarial Department, you will help support and drive forward automated solutions for the Finance teams.


The Senior Finance Systems Developer will typically have expert development skills and knowledge for at least one of the key data management systems (Unify, Python, SAS, Data Stage and Cognos) and will provide visible development leadership on all areas of your own expertise, as required and act as an advocate for the services and value the Finance Solutions team will provide in supporting business initiatives (both in Finance and on occasion externally).


Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Strong proven track record of successful delivery in a similar role ideally for a large financial services company.

  • Expert knowledge of the Python, Oracle, IBM or SAS product suites as required

  • Strong ETL development and implementation skills.

  • Ability to analyse and translate business requirements into compelling technical solutions.

  • Ability to manage both own and project build deliverables to required standards and deadlines and a track record of working within different Project delivery methodologies.

  • You will be a strong communicator both verbally and written with the ability to explain complex information in an easy to understand manner to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Evidence of professional development of software knowledge within area of expertise e.g.

    Python or SAS accredited certification


Core Responsibilities:

  • You will Develop an efficient, controlled and automated process solutions for the finance teams and for projects outside Finance.

  • Utilise and optimise all software sets to deliver appropriate solutions for end users, and within the principles established by the Head of Finance Solutions

  • Lead Continuous improvement of existing processes, including documentation and controls

  • Complete Risk Management through adherence to policies (IT security, End User Computing, Data Protection, GDPR)

  • Play a key role in supporting the firm's software communities through the promotion and maintenance of our Business Intelligence and ETL software sets

  • Support the Head of Finance Solutions through understanding the processes and job streams within the remit of the team

  • Support the Solvency II and IFRS Reporting teams through prioritising automation and the customer / end user experience in all solutions developed or maintained by the Finance Solutions team

  • Where required you will assist the team management by sizing development priorities and ensuring that adequate resources are available (and lead) to ensure delivery with area of expertise
