This role is working for Nufarm, a globally operating player in the world of agricultural chemicals.

Nufarm is investing around £50million into the UK operation in West Yorkshire over the course of the next 4 years, building on an already reputable brand and manufacturing site of around 350 people.

Nufarm's leading products, including proven active ingredients, are packaged to deliver practical solutions in continuing to support British Agriculture and offer stability to those employed by them.



As a First Line Manager the primary purpose of the role is to manage the shift operations of a group of a chemical process plants, utilising resources allocated by the Production Shift Leader to deliver the short-term production plan whilst adhering to the Companies Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.

As part of the continued investment programme on site in Wyke, Bradford this is an on-going position and pivotal in the overall success of the site.



The company is one of the world's foremost chemical manufacturers operating to upper tier COMAH regulations, being the largest global producer of the products created across their sites.

To maintain their status as a market trailblazer within the sector, this organisation has ambitious but stable expansion and investment strategies over the next 5-10 years in which this individual as First Line Manager will be key to delivering and facilitating.



Working on a continuous 4-on/4-off day shift rota the responsibilities of a First Line Manager include: -



  • Sustain high level of personal SHE awareness in the Plant operating teams to ensure compliance with safety, health and environmental regulations at all times; complies with all Process Safety Management related procedures and established work methods, reporting all process safety incidents or hazards and contributing to incident investigations.

  • Ensure that all products required are produced to manufacturing plan to the required quality and that the best use is made of all resources in achieving the plan.

  • Responsible for the people management and leadership of a group of Operators, including recruitment, training (including validation of competence), development and motivation with the aim of continuously improving performance with regards to productivity and safety, health and environment issues.

  • In the event of a site incident, undertake duties required as directed by the Works Incident Controller, as part of the Emergency Response Team.

  • Participate in safety audits, HAZOP's, COSHH and risk assessments.

    Participate in safety investigations and reporting processes as required.

  • Liaise with maintenance dept.to organise and prioritise plant repairs and planned maintenance.

  • Preparation of plant and permits prior to any planned engineering work, hot work or vessel entry.

  • Maintenance of accurate plant raw material and product inventory by means of timely data input into ERP system.

  • Liaise with supply chain to ensure sufficient raw materials are available to maintain production.

    Liaise, where required, with external suppliers out of normal hours.



To be successful in this position as a First Line Manager, you will be experienced in chemical plant operations and production ideally with degree in Chemistry, Engineering or closely related topic.

NVQ 3 in Management or equivalent would be seen as beneficial.

You should also be comfortable writing risk assessments and work permits within a COSHH environment.

A potential First Line Manager candidate should be an experienced, self-sufficient and successful team leader.
