Senior Chemist

This role is working for Nufarm, a globally operating player in the world of agricultural chemicals.

Nufarm is investing around £50million into the UK operation in West Yorkshire over the course of the next 4 years, building on an already reputable brand and manufacturing site of around 350 people.

Nufarm's central products, including proven active ingredients, are packaged to deliver practical solutions in continuing to support British Agriculture and offer stability to those employed by them.

As a Senior Chemist you will be responsible for the creation and development of manufacturing processes and products adopted by the company in-line with current and future business needs, through the application of general Chemistry and formulation science.

Responsibilities of the Senior Chemist:

  • Develop process routes for new products.

  • Undertake work to invent, develop and characterise the performance of new speciality chemical and pesticide formulations.

  • Define and implement laboratory studies to prove the effectiveness of processes under consideration for future manufacturing.

  • Contribute to activities required in relation to HAZOP and safety studies relating to processes under consideration for future manufacturing.

  • Be responsible for the creation of technical scale-up (TTM) documentation.

  • Be responsible for data analysis, technical support and advice during commissioning of new processes within manufacturing at all Nufarm EU and Tolling partner sites.

  • Provide training and advice to others in the technical team (both in Wyke and at other Nufarm entities globally) in the areas of Chemistry and process technology.

  • To lead a technical team to deliver on the above initiatives if required to do so by line management.

  • When required, provide Nufarm's Tolling partners with technical expertise, advice and guidance on synthesis and pesticide formulation manufacture and testing.

  • To enable the above to travel within the EU and further afield, and to work overseas for a prolonged period if necessary, as and when required by the business.

To be successful as a Senior Chemist the minimum requirement is to be educated to degree level in Organic Chemistry - although ideally with a PhD.

Experience within formulation, scale up, plant support, process improvement or HAZOP's is essential to the success of this role.

Finally, significant experience of process development and improvement in a complex chemical manufacturing environment is required.
