Permanent - Speech and Language Therapy Team Lead - Manchester

Maxxima’s permanent team are recruiting for a Speech and Language Therapy Team Lead, based in Manchester. This organisation offers specialist education for students aged 16 to 25 with learning difficulties, disabilities, complex health needs and autism.

Every day we provide personalised support, tailored learning and hands-on life skills to give young people the confidence to exceed their aspirations.

The SALT Team Lead will have a lead role in the management of dysphagia across the college.

They will also be responsible for development of the SALT service to ensure a high standard of communication assessment and intervention to students and other individuals accessing the service.

The post holder will provide assessment, intervention and monitoring for students with learning disabilities and autism spectrum conditions and will support other members of the SALT team to effectively manage their caseloads.

They will work in close collaboration with parents and other professionals within and outside the college.

Salary: £37,109.00 (moving to £41,423.33 in April 2023)

Location: Manchester

Employment Type: Permanent, Full time

Hours: 37.5 per week, 41 weeks direct term time plus 74.5 undirected hour - two yearly increments (salary already pro-rated to working weeks)

Duties & Responsibilities:

- To assume responsibility for the initial assessment of student's communication and eating and drinking skills on application to college
- To manage a caseload of students with complex communication needs and dysphagia (if dysphagia qualified)
- To liaise with parents, families and carers, and advise on issues relating to communication skills and dysphagia needs (if dysphagia qualified)
- To identify training needs within the college and provide training for other members of the staff team to ensure communication strategies can be consistently embedded across college
- To ensure that professional guidelines and Trust policies and procedures are followed and undertake appropriate risk assessment.
- To line manage and supervise members of the SALT team and SALT students

Required Qualifcations and Experience:

- Recognised professional qualification
- Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
- Qualification in clinical education for undergraduate SALT students
- Post basic dysphagia qualification 
- Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities and autism
- Experience of developing and delivering training
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of supervising more junior staff 
- Minimum 3 years post graduate therapy experience in related areas including band 6 level in relevant clinical speciality
