Machine Operator (Extrusion)

The Role

The main purpose of the role is to operate machines that extrude products from liquid polymers.

The operator must ensure that production standards relating to safety, quality, outputs and costs are met, reducing waste where ever possible.

The operator will be responsible for receiving the product off the line, completing routine periodic checks, including visual and dimensional quality checks, packing, labelling and moving by pumptruck to the warehouse.

Main Responsibilities


  • Follow and operate equipment in accordance with Company Safety Policy.
  • Perform manual tasks such as loading and supplying production line items, reworking products, and packaging products.
  • Follow Line Leader instructions for machine line operations.
  • Report to Line Leader with mechanical or operational errors.
  • Perform quality assurance checks and testing compliance according to company and/or design facility standards.
  • Supporting the Line Leader on setting up of machine, to ensure cover for the machines and products are produced to required standards in accordance to production plan.
  • Reel extruded products into rolls of the correct lengths and weights to facilitate storage and shipping.
  • Support the maintenance technicians when breakdowns occur, and to take part in problem solving and improvement activities.
  • To ensure good communication is given either verbally or written to other members of the team, and with shift counterparts for a full handover between shifts.
  • To ensure that Health and Safety rules and regulations are adhered to during the shift and all matters relating to this are dealt with or escalated where necessary.
  • To have an active role in the company's continuous improvement efforts to achieve plans for future growth.
  • Ensure the reels of extruded product are stacked, neatly, correctly labelled and marked with the correct signage.
  • Ensure all paperwork is accurate and reels are labelled correctly.
  • Ensure all waste or defect product is segregated to enable appropriate removal.
  • Maintain all equipment in a satisfactorily clean, safe and operational state.
  • Ensure all emergency stop/safety systems are in place before entering guarding.
  • To control and minimise the levels of any waste and ensure machine is achieving maximum productivity.
  • Take an active part in any training and development programmes and keep own knowledge up to date.

    The Candidate

  • Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Is reliable with good attendance.
  • One year of production experience, preferably in the extrusion manufacturing process.
  • Physically able to safely lift boxes, pallets, bundles, and/or reels.
  • Physically able to stand on concrete for 8 – 12 hours per day.
  • Physically able to bend and squat at regular intervals.
  • Strong work ethic, must want to do tasks and understand their value.
