Job Advertisement: People Support Specialist

Overall Purpose of the Role:
The overall purpose of the People Support Specialist role is to support the Leadership Team in delivering the Director of People's agenda.

You will play a pivotal role in managing functional centers of expertise and providing strategic advice on short to medium-term people-related issues.

Key Accountability Areas:



  • As the People Support Specialist, you will be responsible for the following key result areas:

  • Support Organizational Development Initiatives:

  • Contribute to the Force People Agenda and target outcomes of the Directorate.

  • Support and implement organizational development initiatives identified in the Delivery Plan and other corporate programs.


Drive Continuous Improvement and Innovation:



  • Enable change, reduce bureaucracy, and increase the use of technology.

  • Foster co-production with other members of the People Directorate, the Business, and partners.

  • Deliver continuous improvement and innovation at a tactical level.


Support Effective Decision Making:



  • Work with and influence managers and colleagues across the Force.

  • Utilize an evidence-based approach to support effective decision-making.

  • Provide people-focused solutions to enhance organizational effectiveness.


Promote a Diverse Workforce:



  • Identify opportunities to build and maintain a diverse workforce.

  • Address the changing operational demands on policing.

  • Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives within the organization.


Influence Policy and Decisions:



  • Collate and share ideas and observations to influence policy, process, and decisions.

  • Contribute to the development of strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals.

  • Provide insights and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of people-related policies and practices.


Contribute to Service Delivery:



  • Assist in the service delivery of contracts with external providers when necessary.

  • Collaborate with external partners to ensure high-quality service provision.

  • Coach and Build Managerial Capability:

  • Coach and develop managers to handle complex situations effectively.

  • Empower managers to make informed decisions and address people-related challenges.

  • Build their capacity to manage and develop their teams independently.


Supervise and Assist in People Development:



  • Where appropriate, supervise and assist in the development of individuals within the organization.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Ensure that services are fully aligned with business needs.



Required Skills and Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following knowledge and skills:



  • Part qualified or working towards CIPD or equivalent qualification: Essential

  • Able to demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development: Essential

  • Some experience in delivering people solutions and interventions: Essential

  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships (e.g., cross-departmental programs or projects, collaborative ventures, multi-agency working): Essential

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel: Essential

  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft: Desirable


Additional Job Details:

Pay rate: £15.64 per hour
Flexible working hours: 8 am to 5:30 pm with the option of working 6.5 hours a day or adjusting hours to accommodate longer or shorter days.
Mandatory Friday meeting: Attend or provide cover for a colleague from 1 pm to before 3 pm.
