Quantity Surveyor

Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Barnsley

Job Purpose: As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in driving contract value optimization, monitoring Divisional performance, and implementing a consistent commercial framework for our Projects South area division.

Your responsibilities will include leading project assessments, adhering to Group policies, and proactively managing risks to enhance profitability and competitive performance.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Implement, direct, monitor, and control the commercial framework consistently across the Projects South area division, encompassing customer contracts, risk management, and legal requirements.

  • Improve business profitability and competitive performance through effective selling, negotiation, and maximizing opportunities.

  • Strive for reduced risk and optimized profit on a contract/contract basis while identifying additional valuable opportunities.

  • Establish strong business relationships with operations, estimators, and finance functions within the division.

  • Provide monthly business analysis of BU projects to the Commercial Manager and General Manager.

  • Offer commercial input to business proposals, taking full responsibility for negotiations, valuations, interims, and final accounts.

  • Safeguard the EFS "brand" by applying professional commercial practices and principles.

  • Provide effective and appropriate leadership, fostering team spirit and promoting company ethos, culture, and values.

  • Be accountable for personal development plans, aligning with the EFS career development program.

Person Specification: Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a services environment with a focus on value-led sales pricing and general cost estimating.

  • Proven experience in contract value optimization.

  • Experienced in preparing and negotiating legal and commercial aspects of substantial contracts.

  • Thorough understanding of risk management principles.

  • Strong analysis and report writing skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and effectively communicate issues to both the Divisional Commercial Manager and local colleagues.

  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral, coupled with high drive and energy levels.

  • Proven ability to contribute to the development of long-term business plans and commercial strategy.

  • Experience negotiating complex deals with third-party suppliers.

  • Ideally qualified to HNC/degree level in engineering, commercial management, business administration, or facilities management.

  • Valid full driving license.
