Sen Teaching Assistant

Job description




Responsibilities:



  • Provide support and assistance to students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across Key Stage 1 to 4, both in mainstream classrooms and in specialist SEN settings.

  • Work closely with classroom teachers and SENCO to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and support strategies for students with SEN.

  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the specific needs and abilities of students with SEN, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, delivering targeted interventions to support their academic, social, and emotional development.

  • Assist students with SEN in developing independence, confidence, and self-esteem, fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment.

  • Collaborate with other professionals, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to provide holistic support for students with complex needs.

  • Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents on achievements and areas for development.

  • Promote positive behavior management strategies and assist in the implementation of behavior support plans for students with SEN.


Requirements:



  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN across Key Stage 1 to 4.

  • Understanding of different SEN conditions, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and speech and language disorders.

  • Ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of individuals.

  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to supporting students with diverse needs.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing ideas and insights to support student progress.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
