Job Role: Civil and Structural Design Manager/Engineer



Contract length: 12 months+



Contract days: 3 days per week



Rate:£45 to £65 per hr



IR35 Status: Outside



Location: Manchester



Our client is one of the UK's largest building contractors and they are looking to recruit an experienced Civil and Structural Design Engineer/Manager to join their team on a part time 12 month fixed term contract.

diligent and a critical thinker capable of managing external design teams and project stakeholders.



You will work in an agile way depending on the demands of the role working from our offices, home and other locations including project and design team offices in and around Manchester.



The Role



The purpose of the role is to manage the Civil and Structural elements of a project working as part of a wider project team.



The ideal candidate will be capable of managing external design teams including relevant civil and structural designers to provide best value


solutions for one of our key customers.



The successful candidate will sit within our clients dedicated bid team and will review, interrogate and co-ordinate design to ensure optimum


design solutions are developed.



The role will be on a part time 12-month fixed term basis working with the team for 3 days per week.



The Project



The project comprises the demolition and reconstruction of a new transport interchange at a major transport hub in Greater Manchester.

The works include a significant infrastructure package which comprises the construction of a new footbridge and ramps, works to new and existing retaining walls, infills to underpasses and a new site drainage strategy.



In addition, there are works related to the existing Metrolink station including civil and structural works to platforms and trackside embankments.



The project is currently in the early stages of preconstruction and the role will be primarily preconstruction focused.



Roles and Responsibilities



As a Civil and Structural Design Manager/Engineer you will be responsible for:



 Management, review, and co-ordination of all civil, structural, & highways designs on the project.


 Managing the relevant civil, structural and highways subcontract packages including design cost and programme.


 Co-ordination of the relevant design disciplines to ensure information is received in a timely manner.


 Management and co-ordination of relevant site surveys and investigations including liaison with design teams and supply chain partners.


 Ensuring design compliance with the relevant building regulations and design guides.


 Incorporating buildability advice and providing recommendations to the relevant design and supply chain partners.


 Recommending cost effective design and construction solutions.


 Integrating into the wider project team and adopting a collaborative approach


 Inputting into monthly design reports.



Essential Skills and Experience



 Previous experience on construction and infrastructure projects in a civil and


structural capacity.


 Experience in the rail or light rail sector.


 Highways/Structural Highways experience.


 Capable of analysing and critiquing designs and offering alternative solutions.


 Able to work autonomously whilst also being integrated into a larger team.


 Capable of managing multiple design team partners to achieve a common objective.


Desirable Skills and Experience


 Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation.


 Previous experience with highways designs, section 278.


 Previous experience in cost plan development for civil and structural works.
