Assistant Accountant

Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in the Leicestershire region, who are recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join their team.

Role: Assistant Accountant
Location: Leicestershire
Temporary: 8 Months (with potential for extension)
Rate: £14.91 - £18.56 per hour.

Main Responsibilities:

• To maintain bank accounts and bank reconciliations, support the Financial Accountant with treasury matters and administer the insurance process and all claims against the Council.


• To assist, develop and support quality service and performance to uphold the Council's vision and carry out work in the spirit and intentions of its core values.


• To complete reconciliations for all bank accounts alongside treasury debt and investments to the general ledger.


• Communication with solicitors, claimants and insurers to ensure information on insurance claims is promptly collated.


• Direct responsibility for determining Council liability, on small claims and communicating the relevant outcome.


• Routine creation and maintenance of the creditors master files.


• Daily processing of Batch Input items into Financial Management System.


• Support colleagues and the Financial Accountant in the use and administration of Financial Management Systems.


• To complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.


• Maintain Council' authorised signatory lists.

Candidate Requirements:

• AAT qualified or working towards AAT qualification.


• Experience of using and maintaining an corporate bank account and financial management system.


• Good written, numerical and communication skills.


• Knowledge of local authority finance and understanding of VAT.


• Ability to demonstrate adaptability in performing a range of duties and willingness to work as part of a team.
