Senior Highways Engineer

Do you have 6 to 9 years' experience as a Civil Engineer? This role is for a Senior Highways Engineer to play a crucial role for our clients Birmingham office.

You will have a varied work stream, involved in a wide range of sectors and clients.

This will include high-profile and prominent developers, landowners, house builders, retailers, universities, NHS health providers as well as contractors.

The role:



  • Working knowledge of Design Manual for Road and Bridges(DMRB), MfS1&2, LTN1/20.

    Including experience in their general application, as well as local authority, highway design standards.

  • Independent use of engineering software: AutoCAD (2D Design), Civil 3D (3D Design), AutoTrack and MicroDrainage.

  • An awareness of Departures from Standard for and Local Highway Authorities and National Highways.

  • Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and design documents.

  • Working knowledge of Section 278 & Section 38 legal agreements process.

  • Review of utility diversions associated with Section 278 works through an understanding of National Joint Utility Guidelines, C2 & C3 Utility Diversions.

  • A clear understanding of designers' duties as required under Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.

  • Coordinating with the transport planning team, project engineers, and engineering technicians to ensure comprehensive delivery of service.

  • Exposure to Project Management and client communication.

  • Prepare client briefs and fee proposals for submission, as well as contributing to companywide bids and framework applications.

  • Commissioning, preparation of and designers response inputs, to optioneering studies, GG104 Risk Assessment, GG142 walking, cycling and horse-riding assessment, GG119 road safety audits

  • Contribute towards our business targets.


What you need to succeed:



  • Formal education in either Civil Engineering or experience in Highway Engineering disciplines;

  • Experience in the field of development-focused highway design/engineering;

  • A member (or seeking to be) of a professional membership, such as ICE or CIHT;

  • Excellent communication skills with a high standard of work ethic; and

  • Accuracy, attention to detail and ability to work proactively and use initiative.
