Occupational Therapist
Integra Education are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist to deliver tailored therapeutic support for a young person with complex needs, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, PDA and sensory processing challenges, as outlined in their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
This role focuses on providing weekly, in-person therapy sessions within the home environment while collaborating remotely with a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to ensure effective delivery of therapeutic goals and strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Development and Implementation of Sensory Programmes
Sensory Morning Routine Plan: Develop a comprehensive sensory morning routine tailored to the child's self-care and sensory processing needs, factoring in interoceptive difficulties.
Provide a one-time, four-hour consultation to create and deliver this plan.
Interoception Curriculum: Deliver a weekly 20-minute session focusing on interoception awareness, ensuring the Key Worker is present to provide continuity and integration into daily life.
1:1 Sensory Sessions: Provide weekly 1:1 sensory integration therapy sessions (based on Ayres Sensory Integration) for 60 minutes per session, totaling up to 38 hours annually.
Programme Monitoring and Review
- Conduct termly direct reviews of the OT programme and sensory morning plan (1 hour per term).
- Review the sensory diet plan quarterly, dedicating 1 hour per review (4 hours annually).
- Perform weekly indirect reviews with the Key Worker to monitor progress and provide updates on interoception awareness, zones of regulation, and other strategies (1 hour per week, up to 50 hours annually).
- Attend half-termly MDT meetings, providing oral feedback and updates based on programme reviews.
One meeting will serve as the child's EHC Plan review (1.5 hours per half term, 5 half terms annually, plus 2 hours annually for the EHC Plan review). - Allocate up to 4 hours per half term for writing programmes and reports, ensuring clear communication of progress and strategies (up to 24 hours annually).
- Collaborate closely with the Key Worker to ensure effective implementation of the child's OT programme.
- Provide training and guidance to the Key Worker to ensure continuity of support in daily routines and strategies.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Occupational Therapy (required).
- Advanced postgraduate training in sensory integration (Level 3 or equivalent, required).
- Proven experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), sensory processing difficulties, and interoception challenges.
- Expertise in developing and delivering sensory integration therapy and related interventions.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Strong understanding of sensory integration and interoception theory and practice.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with Key Workers, families, and MDT members.
- Empathy and patience in addressing the needs of children with complex profiles.
- Strong organizational skills for programme development, monitoring, and reporting.
Additional Requirements
- Commitment to providing up to 150 hours of direct and indirect support annually.
- Flexibility to adapt programmes and strategies to meet the evolving needs of the child.
- Attendance and active participation in MDT meetings and reviews.
