Position Details

As a Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician, you will:



  • Provide clinical leadership and expert medical support in child protection cases, including child sexual assault, physical abuse, and neglect.

  • Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed care in collaboration with paediatricians, forensic specialists, and psychosocial teams.

  • Participate in the district-wide on-call roster for child protection and sexual assault cases.

  • Support medical, nursing, and allied health staff in managing complex child protection presentations.

  • Develop and implement local systems to monitor, audit, and improve child protection services.

  • Contribute to training, research, and policy development to enhance child protection responses at both local and state levels.

  • Work closely with interagency partners, including police, child protection services, and community organisations, to ensure a coordinated approach to child safety.

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent, with registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics and Child Health Division).

  • Formal training in forensic medicine (or willingness to complete within six months of appointment).

  • Experience in child protection medicine, including child sexual assault and complex care cases.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and interagency networks.

  • Understanding of cultural safety and the ability to provide appropriate care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and diverse communities.

  • Commitment to quality improvement, education, and ongoing professional development.
