Estimator/Quantity Surveyor
Location: Southampton / As Required


Role Purpose


Support and produce precise, detailed estimates and proposals that provide solutions tailored to client requirements.



Key Responsibilities


  • Analyze client needs to prepare comprehensive estimates and financial models for internal review.


  • Manage and maintain project documentation and job folders efficiently.


  • Monitor and input labor resource data into estimate models using up-to-date internal and external labor rates.


  • Draft inquiries for materials, subcontractors, and other project-specific resources.


  • Collect and evaluate quotes from suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing.


  • Engage in technical and commercial discussions with clients and internal teams.


  • Conduct site surveys when necessary to verify tender specifications.


  • Compile commercial and technical tender documents in client-specific formats, ensuring thorough internal review prior to submission.


  • Attend client meetings and contribute effectively.


  • Present contract briefings to the outfit project team following contract award.


  • Assist project teams during the initial phase with major requisitions and planning, as needed.


  • Review completed project data and update future estimates accordingly.


  • Stay updated on industry trends and integrate relevant innovations to maintain a competitive edge.


  • Seek opportunities to expand client base and generate new inquiries.


  • Adhere to company policies regarding punctuality, conduct, and emergency arrangements.


  • Work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines without direct supervision.


  • Support the broader company objectives by performing additional duties as necessary.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


Knowledge of:




  • Marine industries, including cruise ships, ferries, defense projects, and superyachts.


  • Outfitting processes across multiple trade disciplines.



Proficiency in:




  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Project.



Ability to:




  • Display a proactive attitude and adapt to various tasks within a small, collaborative team environment.


  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and scopes of work.


  • Utilize measurement and surveying tools to calculate material requirements.



Additional Requirements


  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage professionally with staff, management, and suppliers.


  • Willingness to travel independently as necessary to support business objectives.


  • Apply analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills effectively to benefit the company.


  • Maintain compliance with company policies regarding drug and alcohol testing.



Acceptable Experience and Training


  • Background in marine or land-based outfitting industries is advantageous but not essential.



Safety Responsibilities


  • Ensure all personnel adhere to relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.


  • Take personal responsibility for safety, including that of visitors and the general public on company property.


  • Report and document accidents, incidents, or near misses promptly.
