Experience within steel manufacturing would be particularly welcome, along with previous experience operating overhead cranes.

About Firth Steels

Firth Steels is an established, family-run Yorkshire manufacturer with around 35 years of experience producing high-quality profiled steel products for the construction industry.

Based at a purpose-designed manufacturing facility in Brighouse, the company produces everything from roofing and cladding products to structural steel products and bespoke fabrications.

It's a busy, growing business that continues to invest in its people, equipment and manufacturing processes, while maintaining the friendly, supportive environment of a family-run company.

Role overview

This is a varied, hands-on position working on a busy factory shopfloor, primarily supporting experienced Machine Operators with the day-to-day running of production lines.

You'll be involved in preparing and moving materials, assisting with production activities and helping to keep operations running safely and efficiently.

There is also the opportunity to work within the Fabrication Shop, where experience operating guillotines and press brakes would be particularly beneficial.

For someone with the right attitude and willingness to learn, there is genuine scope to develop your skills and progress into a Machine Operator position.

  • Assisting with the preparation, handling and movement of steel materials
  • Supporting general manufacturing and production activities
  • Operating overhead cranes where trained and competent
  • Assisting with guillotine and press brake operations within the Fabrication Shop, where appropriate
  • Carrying out general manual handling duties
  • Checking materials and helping maintain production quality standards
  • Keeping the shopfloor clean, organised and safe
  • Following all site health and safety procedures
  • Supporting colleagues across different areas of the factory when required

Skills and experience

Ideally, you'll have previous experience working in a busy factory, production or manufacturing environment, preferably within the steel industry.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Previous experience working on a busy manufacturing or production shopfloor
  • Experience within steel manufacturing, fabrication or a similar engineering environment
  • An overhead crane licence or previous experience operating overhead cranes
  • Experience operating guillotines or press brakes, particularly for the fabrication positions
  • A good understanding of safe working practices within a manufacturing environment

Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable, hardworking and has a positive attitude
  • Enjoys practical, hands-on work
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Is willing to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities
  • Is comfortable with physical work and manual handling
  • Takes pride in their work and pays attention to detail

You don't need to tick every box. If you have a good background in manufacturing and are keen to develop your skills, we'd still be interested in hearing from you.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • 40-hour working week
  • Early finish at 2.30pm every Friday
  • Optional Saturday overtime
