Key responsibilities of the Commercial Property Lawyer position
Provide high-level legal and property-related advice to Members and senior officers covering property, housing and local government law
Act for the Council in the progression of complex property matters relating to the Council's land holdings to include, without limitation, disposals and acquisitions; a variety of matters falling within the Housing Acts and the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954; the devolution of Council property assets; disposals at an undervalue; overage provisions and options and the Council's powers relating to the same.
Work under pressure and to tight timescales to support the delivery of the Council's priority capital receipts, revenue savings and statutory requirements.
Key requirements for the Commercial Property Lawyer role
Qualified lawyer or experienced paralegal with previous experience of handling complex property work within the public sector
Excellent knowledge of property law and related legislation
Ideally worked for a local authority previously

Reporting to the Director of Audit, Risk & Compliance, this is a hybrid role requiring x2 days in the office, based at the HQ on the outskirts of Leeds.
This is a standalone role and the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years PQE with some exposure to Financial Services and FCA regulation including CCA, ideally with previous In-house exposure in the sector.
This is a hugely varied position and you'll provide timely and commercially driven legal advice to internal stakeholders across all business functions, with a core focus on acquisitions and client relationship management, risk & compliance, and finance
Day to day you'll be responsible for drafting commercial agreements and contracts with clients and suppliers for all Group relationships as well as working on all aspects of corporate and commercial legal tasks, servicing a diverse range of stakeholders.
There may well be aspects of litigation from time to time along with GDPR/Data protection guidance and advice, supporting the incumbent DPO during absence or larger projects.
This is a very fast-moving role and organisation and will require a client facing, communicative and pragmatic legal advisor with vision and positivity.
