Test Engineer Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Salary: £35,000 £40,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, onsite
The Role We are seeking a skilled Test Engineer to join the Test Department of a leading technology business in Horsham.
Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for testing electroâopticalâmechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete systems, ensuring accuracy of results, diagnosing faults, and supporting the wider engineering team in resolving production or design issues.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong hands-on electrical/electro-mechanical test expertise to contribute to developing high-quality, cutting-edge products in a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) using standard test equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters).
- Assist in the creation of comprehensive test procedures and FAT documentation.
- Fault-find across a wide range of electromechanical equipment.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Ensure compliance with quality processes, ISO9001 standards, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate test documentation and reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes and facilities.
- Support field service activities when required.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised workshop and office environment.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of testing electrical and electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to write and execute test plans and FATs for new product launches.
- Competent in reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and PCB schematics.
- Ability to support wider production and quality teams where needed.
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Electronics Engineering.
- Hands-on experience in manual testing and integration.
- Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Word & Excel.
Desirable:
- PCB testing and fault-finding experience.
- Familiarity with digital camera and video protocols.
- Knowledge of automated test software.
- Awareness of communication protocols and networking.
- Experience in PLC programming, CAD packages.

Draft plans, details, and schedules, including fan arrays, equipment layouts, responsibility matrices, and other project-specific deliverables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: List the licenses, certificates, and registrations required to perform the essential duties.
Associate's degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or similar (preferred). Industry certifications in drafting, AutoCAD, or Revit (preferred but not required). Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally to project sites. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1-3 years of CAD production experience in the design or construction industry (or equivalent academic training). Experience with construction drafting in AutoCAD; Autodesk Revit experience preferred. Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical components. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Bluebeam, SharePoint, or Smartsheet is preferred. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across engineers, project managers, and field staff. JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To support the Engineering team in the preparation of drawings, schedules, and design documents for HVAC restoration projects.
The Mechanical Drafter translates field data and engineering input into accurate drawings, helping to develop drafting standards, templates, and tools that improve project delivery and efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: List the job's essential or principal functions and responsibilities.
Include all critical aspects of the job -- whether performed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually; and any that occur at irregular intervals.
Supports the Design Engineer in the production of mechanical engineering drawings for HVAC restoration projects according to established standards for clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Reads and interprets technical drawings, schematics, field sketches, test and balance data, and engineer input to generate construction drawings and project schedules. Draft plans, details, and schedules, including fan arrays, equipment layouts, responsibility matrices, and other project-specific deliverables. Creates, maintains, and improves drafting resources such as CAD blocks, templates, title blocks, sheet setups, and detail libraries. Revises drawings based on feedback from engineers, project managers, and clients. Supports drafting automation efforts, including data-linked schedules and fillable data plates for air handler restorations. Incorporates applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, NCS, etc.) into drafting practices. Coordinates with Field Engineers to clarify and standardize field sketch requirements. Organizes and manages digital project files across platforms (SharePoint, Bluebeam, Smartsheet) to support consistent project delivery. Completes assigned drafting tasks on multiple projects simultaneously within required deadlines.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: List the licenses, certificates, and registrations required to perform the essential duties.
Associate's degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or similar (preferred). Industry certifications in drafting, AutoCAD, or Revit (preferred but not required). Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally to project sites. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1-3 years of CAD production experience in the design or construction industry (or equivalent academic training). Experience with construction drafting in AutoCAD; Autodesk Revit experience preferred. Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical components. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Bluebeam, SharePoint, or Smartsheet is preferred. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work across engineers, project managers, and field staff. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and in a team setting. Ability to travel out of state up to 15% of the time.

Key Responsibilities for the Structural Engineer – Composites:
•Interpret the Master Work List to define clear design scope alongside the Client Project Manager and Line Manager.
•Support GRP composite design development across production sites.
•Prepare 3D models and 2D drawings using AutoCAD and Siemens NX for use by Oyster’s production teams.
•Ensure designs comply with ISO 12215, Lloyd’s SSC, and DNV HSLC classification standards.
•Review third-party survey reports, prepare internal surveys, and propose repair strategies.
•Assist in material test sample design, commissioning of tests, and analysis of test results.
•Collaborate with QA, Production, and Metrology departments to optimise manufacturing methods.
•Contribute to continuous improvement (value engineering), and drive cost and weight reductions.
•Attend internal project meetings and provide feedback from production to improve future designs.
•Support procurement and manage technical elements of supply chain in relation to composite design.
Essential Skills & Qualifications of the Structural Engineer – Composites:
•Degree qualified with 2–5 years of marine composite design experience, preferably in a yacht production environment.
•Proficient in AutoCAD, Siemens NX, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
•Strong knowledge of GRP composite materials including polyester, vinylester, and epoxy systems.
•Familiarity with infusion techniques is desirable.
•Understanding of yacht systems and installation requirements as relevant to composite design.
•Previous experience from a boatyard or marine consultancy is preferred.
•Strong supplier and product knowledge, with ability to manage design aspects of the supply chain.
•Excellent time management, attention to detail, and ability to work under deadline pressure.
•Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between UK production sites.
