Are you an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, experienced in installation, maintenance or design looking for an exciting opportunity to come off the tools and learn how to use your wealth of knowledge to help others?
Our well-established client provides a web-based software platform to make building maintenance schedules available to engineers in the field for over 800 subscribers including museums, libraries, councils, retailers, healthcare suppliers, and manufacturers.
They have offices based in the North and South but the role is fully remote.
Due to continuous growth, they are currently looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their existing team and go through a 6-12 month training plan to become a Technical Author.
The role involves the management and provision of advice to internal groups and members, the facilitation, writing and maintaining of technical publications, and the research and collation of maintenance schedules.
This is a fully remote role and you can be based anywhere in the UK.
Travel to one of their offices for meetings is required occasionally, usually once per quarter.
Key Duties (Once Trained): Maintenance Engineer (Technical Author)
- Research, development and writing of service and maintenance schedules
- Continually review technical and legislative/statutory requirements, revising and creating
maintenance schedules accordingly to align with changes in the industry, including
schedule and task descriptions, maintenance actions, maintenance intervals and time
taken to carry out listed maintenance
- The provision of advice to subscribers, members and staff
- Keeping abreast of relevant developments relating to the technical and safety aspects of
the building services sector
- Collation and analysis of issues, trends and updates based on this analysis
- Gather information from industry and manufacturers to enable maintenance tasks to be
developed for new equipment and sector-specific requirements
Key Skills / Experience Required - Maintenance Engineer (Technical Author)
- Demonstrable experience in mechanical maintenance engineering, with significant
hands-on experience in maintenance, installation or design
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and maintenance requirements for mechanical building services
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts
- Working knowledge of Facilities Management, particularly in mechanical installations, and current regulations, industry standards, and codes of practice
- Familiarity with building handover documentation such as operation and maintenance
manuals, record drawings, manufacturers literature, and test certificates
- Ability to interpret legislation, standards, and best practice guides to draft and produce
technical documentation
- Effective communication with technical experts in the Facilities Management and Building
Services sector
- Understanding of user needs and requirements to tailor documentation accordingly
- Flexibility to quickly adapt and update documentation to reflect industry changes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, and a high level of computer literacy
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related field is desireable, or equivalent

JOB PURPOSE:
The Corporate Project & Design Engineer is accountable for providing engineering design specifications and standards as well as leading strategic CapEx engineering projects within Manufacturing Operations.
This includes executing engineering projects for capital installations $200,000+, project management ownership from design through startup, and long-range technical planning and strategies for the business.
The role also leads the creation and maintenance of engineering design specifications, guidelines, and standards.
Principle Accountabilities:
Responsible for capital project execution including equipment selection, justification, CapEx processing, purchasing, installation, and start-up support efforts Engineering Design Leadership - Develop and manage engineering design specifications and Techno-Economic Models including process design, P&ID, mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and financial analyses (CapEx, OpEX, NPV) Support & bolster the Engineering Work Process providing strategic direction and support to build and enhance the work process Engineers within the team on large projects can be assigned specific portions of capital projects based on expertise and workload availability including project management, technical design of packaging equipment & paint making/processing equipment, and construction management.
Project Management - Manage projects using the Engineering Work Process from conceptual design through successful startup transition to the local plant team.
This includes managing budget, timeline, and deliverables to ensure projects meet established success criteria. Design - Recommend, and implement manufacturing systems that are designed for machine, human interaction, method/process, raw material & environmental variability.
Design to incorporate Lean principles to improve reliability, ease of use & maintenance, minimize changeover times, and to minimize production losses. Construction Management - Manage contractors, technicians, skilled trades, and internal resources to safely install and startup manufacturing systems.
This includes working with the plant operational teams on training, standard operating procedures, and identification of spare parts. Apply the Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations, building code, and NFPA fire code to capital projects and design specifications Manage external Engineering Firm resources on large capital projects Frequent interface with corporate staff, plant staff, operators, and maintenance personnel across a 3-shift operation
Education/Experience Requirements:
BS in Chemical Engineering preferred.
Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Packaging, and Electrical Engineers with hands-on related experience will also be considered. 5 years Minimum in plant engineering support role with hands-on experience in engineering, process design, continuous improvement, troubleshooting equipment, project management and project start-up verification Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, and technical communication skills, with the ability to lead and thrive in fast-paced, multitasking environments Commitment to safety, ethical behavior, and respect for people, ensuring adherence to industry standards, governmental regulations and company values Willingness to travel frequently to support capital project assignments.
Travel will be variable, depending on ongoing project needs (~20-30%)

Additionally provide assistance and support to the Maintenance Mechanic in making repairs throughout the plant.

Here's what you can expect every day: The primary responsibility is to operate the filling line to meet the production schedule.
Secondarily, the employee will be required to change over and repair line equipment as needed.
Restock supplies and components on filling line as needed to support production.
Perform quality checks and inspections as necessary.
Document various production data; including downtime, production rate, and issues.
Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate. Inspecting drives, motors, and belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or performing other maintenance actions, following checklists. Using tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices. Assemble, install, or repair: wiring, piping, machinery, and equipment. Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery. Diagnose mechanical problems and determining how to correct them, utilizing repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary.
Required Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent. 1-3 years of industrial experience. Experience with filling and packaging equipment. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Ability to read and follow standard operating procedures. Ability to do basic math and enter computer data. Ability to coordinate with the work of others and solve problems in a team environment. Active participation in our Continuous Improvement Process. Ability to lift 75 pounds. Willingness to work overtime as required.
Additional Consideration Given to Those With:
Exposure to quality programs. Paint/Coatings/chemical industry knowledge or experience. Experience with a continuous process discipline such as Six Sigma/Lean/TQM manufacturing environment. Previous experience with safety programs. Rust-Oleum is an equal opportunity employer.
