Role Overview
We are currently looking for a Controls Engineering Technician to join a leading manufacturing company based in the Plymouth area.
As the Day Shift Controls Engineering Technician, you will be working with the asset care team and providing control system support within the assembly production areas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Your duties as the Controls Engineering Technician will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:
1.
Implement improvements to TPM processes to increase OEE, liaise with department representatives to ensure that PM is successfully initiated and completed within the time frame.
2. Provide support to set-up and maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems on production equipment.
3.
Read electrical drawings, analyse, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance and repairs of any plant electrical systems (including, but not limited to, programmable controllers, servo motors, AC motors, contactors, etc.).
4. Connect to PLC machinery to help diagnose complex faults and make minor software changes, when required under the guidance of the process engineering team.
Role Requirements
To be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Day Shift Controls Engineering Technician we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:
1.
Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is essential.
2.
Proven industry experience in working as a manufacturing engineer/technician with experience in fault finding and root cause analysis within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency of PLC operations, robotics, Maintenance, Programming, and the ability to read schematics or machining, tooling design, tooling assembly, part drawings and pneumatic schematics.

This role is crucial in ensuring that manufacturing equipment, infrastructure, and facilities are maintained and improved to meet the companys operational and future growth demands.
You will take ownership of equipment installation, process improvement projects, and cost reduction initiatives while supporting maintenance activities and ensuring optimal plant performance.
Key Responsibilities of a Plant Engineer:
- Develop and execute project plans for equipment installation, machine rearrangement, and facility upgrades.
- Source, specify, and purchase machinery, equipment, and spare parts to support operational improvements.
- Supervise sub-contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations and project timelines.
- Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives and process improvements.
- Carry out plant engineering activities, including fault finding, reliability improvement, and preventive maintenance.
- Provide technical expertise, including data analysis, planning, and execution, to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of technical documentation for plant equipment.
- Support maintenance teams in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues across the site.
What Were Looking For:
Essential:
- HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a relevant engineering environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes of reliability issues.
- Ability to write maintenance procedures and improve asset management processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with awareness of Microsoft Project.
Desirable:
- Experience with CAD software for plant layout and design.
- Familiarity with business systems such as Oracle or MP2.
- Exposure to automation technologies and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) analysis.
- Multiskilled experience in both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
