Summary: Research and Development role with primary focus on Concrete and Cement Additives, including new product development, formulation modification, and raw material cost savings.
Project specific support with grout and mortar, grinding aid, analytical, and petrographic departments.
Responsible for helping drive product innovation and technology advancements throughout all product groups.
Responsibilities:
Develop and formulate new concrete and cement additives
Develop extensive understanding of cementitious systems and cement/additive interactions
Evaluate new or alternative raw material sources for concrete and cement additives
Conduct frequent literature review, including recent concrete industry publications, new technology/innovation articles, and patent searches
Communicate new product ideas, technologies, innovations, etc., with other lab personnel, marketing, operations
Conduct laboratory studies testing concrete, cement additives, concrete admixtures, including mixing concrete, preparing additive samples, and testing plastic and hardened properties of concrete/mortar
Work with analytical and petrographic teams to share and develop knowledge on portland cement, IL, IP, IT, LC3, supplementary cementitious materials, etc., and their interactions with concrete and cement additives
Participate in industry committees and organizations such as ASTM and ACI
Present research internally to technical, marketing, sales, and operations groups, and externally to industry publications and organizations
Regular computer use including internet research, SAP, excel, powerpoint, etc.
Education and Experience:
• Master's or Ph.D.
in Civil, Structural, or Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry• Experience in concrete or cement research and testing• Prior hands-on lab experience preferred
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency with tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and enterprise systems• Experience working with laboratory and analytical equipment• Strong knowledge of cement chemistry and admixture interactions

Job Description
The Principal Innovation Chemist is responsible for the development and implementation of new technologies, raw materials, processes, and products.
The role requires problem-solving, strong analytical, and communication skills with a focus on leading projects, mentoring chemists along with collaboration with cross-functional teams across all regions and segments.
Main Responsibilities
Formulation Development: Lead the formulation development process for new products, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
Formulation Development: Conduct experiments to formulate and optimize product performance, stability, and safety, utilizing advanced analytical techniques.
Formulation Development: Conduct stability studies and assess the performance of formulations under various conditions, providing actionable insights for continuous improvement.
Reporting & Communication: Prepare monthly reports on projects/initiatives, communicate with leadership team weekly on priorities and expectations, coordinate, update, and communicate quarterly with team members on company goals.

Key Qualifications

Serve as a technical ambassador for the Euclid Chemical cement additive sales team. Subject matter expert to provide feedback and troubleshooting information for customers. Act as a technical expert on the latest cement manufacturing technologies, equipment, and best practices to maintain Euclid Chemical's competitive edge. Deliver customer support through industrial trials, mill audits, special projects, data analysis, and detailed reporting to retain existing customers and attract new ones Compile and analyze industrial trial process data, and prepare detailed reports providing conclusions and action items from industrial trial runs. Keep thorough and updated records of activity history with active and potential cement additive customers. Design and execution of plant industrial trials and mill audits. Maintenance and operation of portable pump equipment inventory to utilize during industrial trials. Collaborate with the Cement Additives Technical Manager and Cement Lab Manager to develop new products and enhance existing lines based on market trends, competitive analysis, and industrial trial results. Work collaboratively with Euclid Chemical Cement Additives Lab team in the development and improvement of laboratory ball mill methodologies for testing materials.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical) or chemistry - master's degree is preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in cement manufacturing process control or quality management.
Skills and Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge and understanding of cement manufacturing, cement chemistry, and raw and finish mill circuit operation. Basic understanding of cement additives chemistries. Ability to interpret lab outputs (e.g., XRD, clinker microscopy, isothermal calorimetry, and physical test results) to develop customer-specific strategies and product recommendations. Proficiency with cement standards (ASTM, CSA, etc.). Strong knowledge of milling equipment, particle classifiers, circuit configurations, and pyro processes for optimizing clinker performance. Advanced knowledge of MS Office computer software: Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
Basic knowledge of MS Outlook, Teams, Edge Internet Browser. Knowledge of industry trends, including low clinker content cement production and co-grinding with alternative materials. Data analysis and report writing skills. Communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership and team management capabilities. Analytical and problem-solving abilities. The ability to design and execute plant industrial trials and mill audits.
Travel:
Willingness to travel as needed for customer meetings and plant industrial trials (up to 50%).
