They start-up, troubleshoot, and operate manufacturing and production equipment safely and routinely while achieving or exceeding standard levels of production, according to specifications.
This position can turn into a regular union position if the employee completes the probationary period, successfully.
During the probationary period, this position will be on 1st Shift.
If the employee successfully completes the probationary period and becomes a regular employee, the position will most likely change to 2nd or 3rd shift, depending on Plant needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs work in a safe manner, according to safety rules and guidelines
Communicates with Team Lead and/or Supervisor during shift-changes and throughout shift
Understands and operates the HMI at the various stations along the line, to keep the line operating safely and efficiently
Monitors weight, speed, and other metrics along the line
Operates forklift to move raw materials, load carrier and move finished product
Makes raw material batches in the appropriate mixer(s), according to specifications
Performs quality control tests on the batches, per established guidelines
Ensures proper labels are being used on the taping machine
Fills appropriate-sized pails, drums or totes, labels filled-items and places pails/drums on pallet
Follows Tremco's Escalation Policy for any safety or quality concerns
Performs daily housekeeping/cleaning of immediate area and other surrounding areas, as needed
During line down-time, performs housekeeping duties in immediate area, other areas of the plant or assist in other departments

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Salt Handler provides manufacturing support by performing any miscellaneous activity that keeps operators focused on running lines and maintaining quality.
This position primarily handles all salt transactions from the cage to the make-up tanks and keeps all salt areas and equipment clean and stocked.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fill salt make-up tanks with bags from caged areas, record transactions, and pump over to cure tanks.
Clean/skim salt cure tanks, including chipping salt build-up off tanks and salt wipe.
Clean and maintain salt collection drums and storage areas.
Pack finished goods into appropriate containers and operate secondary equipment.
Perform off-line production operations as needed.
Hand feed raw material at the extrusion line.
Perform daily assembly of packaging components as needed.
Perform daily housekeeping duties of assigned areas: sweep, mop, chip salt, skim, and maintain 5S areas.
Assist Safety Coordinator with compliance tasks as needed.
Cover breaks and lunches for operators as needed.
Perform work in a safe manner while following all safety rules.
Assist the Shift Coordinator in restocking salt cages when needed.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Work with the maintenance crew to implement the needed preventative measures.
Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Prepare capital projects for submission to management.
Included are costs, schedule, JHA, PHA, and procedures needed.
Serve as lead project engineer for approved capital projects with the goal of on-time and on-budget completion.
Develop and administer a viable and visual Preventative Maintenance Program that reduces downtime and improves overall reliability of production and production supporting machinery.
Responsible for identifying capital requirements for the facility's annual capital plan and budget.
Direct, review, and approve product design and changes consistent with MOC procedures.
Recruit departmental employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
Analyze annual site utility expenditure and develop plans to optimize plant efficiency to reduce costs (ISO 14001).
Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
Integrate the plant PHA initiative with the appropriate capital projects.
Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation.
Interface with leadership, operators, and maintenance to develop needed TPM programs.
Support SPC, DOE's, and other Quality initiatives.
Lead Engineer for the production processes.
Develop facility infrastructure upgrade plan.

EDUCATION:

The Facilities Technicians are responsible for developing, providing and maintaining a high standard of building energy and manufacturing services.
