Duties and responsibilities of the Design Engineer:
• Perform mechanical design of subsystems including hatch hinges, locks, jigs, and related components, ensuring robust, manufacturable solutions.
• Develop composite production materials such as ply books and mould geometries, supporting efficient fabrication processes.
• Design and integrate routing for hydraulics, propulsion, water systems, and other mechanical subsystems within the marine platforms.
• Apply personal judgement and initiative to solve day-to-day design challenges and procedural obstacles effectively.
• Maintain proficiency with all relevant IT systems and software, including Siemens NX CAD, ensuring high-quality design output.
• Act ethically and with integrity, representing the best interests of the business at all times.
• Maintain professional and supportive relationships with team members, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments to meet business objectives.
• Manage time effectively to maximise productivity and meet project deadlines.
• Carry out any other duties as assigned by senior management or authorised representatives.
Health & Safety responsibilities:
• Ensure the working environment is clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety policies and best practices.
• Confirm all equipment used is safe, within electrical test date, and equipped with appropriate guards and interlocks.
• Follow company health and safety procedures to ensure personal and colleague safety.
• Report any health and safety hazards or violations promptly to supervisors or the QHSE Manager.
• Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear, reporting replacements as necessary.
Qualifications and requirements for the Design Engineer:
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
• Proficient use of Siemens NX CAD, with exposure to Teamcenter PLM and Simcenter Nastran highly desirable.
• Expertise in design for manufacture of composite and metallic parts, including fabricated or milled components.
• Strong knowledge of material selection principles.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
• Experience designing platforms for small batch series production in marine, automotive, motorsport, or aerospace sectors.
• Marine design experience including mechanical design, naval architecture, structures, or marine engineering.

• Perform Space, Weight and Power (Electrical) – SWAP(E) assessments for integration of diverse payload modules
• Develop 3D CAD concepts and detailed models using Siemens NX
• Generate manufacturing and assembly drawings for both prototype and production builds
• Design components and interfaces using appropriate materials (metals and composites), ensuring system-level integration
• Produce high-quality concept renderings and visuals for customer and marketing use
• Participate in design and integration workshops with both internal stakeholders and external payload suppliers
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including systems, electrical and control engineering to achieve functional solutions
Qualifications and requirements for the Module Integration Design Engineer:
Essential:
• Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or similar field
• Proficiency with 3D parametric CAD (preferably Siemens NX)
• Understanding of structural design principles and SWAP(E) analysis
• Experience designing with metallic and composite materials
• Good time management and the ability to deliver to tight deadlines
• Effective communicator and team player
Desirable:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Design Manager to join our client’s growing team, based in Fareham, Hampshire.
As the Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of design and development engineers, overseeing high-performance small craft projects made from composites and lightweight materials.
In this role, you will ensure that design and development activities are aligned with project timelines and client specifications, while also providing technical oversight to ensure the highest standards of quality and performance.
You will be working closely with the Design and Development Director, highlighting any resource or technical challenges and helping drive solutions to ensure smooth project progress.
You will also be expected to manage resources effectively across multiple projects, liaising with relevant regulatory bodies to ensure all designs meet required standards and compliance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing interdisciplinary teams and will have experience working on high-performance small craft, especially in sectors such as marine, automotive, or aerospace.

Qualifications and requirements for the (Design Manager):
Degree in Engineering - Preferred - Marine related such as a Naval Architecture degree but open minded for the right candidate.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Essential skills, knowledge and experience for the (Design Manager):
Running interdisciplinary teams on high-performance small craft made from composites and lightweight materials, focusing on maritime design and manufacture projects
Experience resourcing personnel across multiple projects
Managing time against project progress
Liaison with relevant regulatory bodies
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience for the (Design Manager):
Experience working on the design of platforms for small batch series production (marine, automotive, motorsport, aerospace etc)
Marine design experience, either mechanical, naval architecture, structures, marine engineering etc
