Typically, this person will be:
An experienced Mechanical Engineer providing design support to the Auxiliary Systems Team working on the River Class Destroyer Program for the Royal Canadian Navy.
You’ll support the functional design of auxiliary and piped fluid systems, contributing to the development, integration, and delivery of high-quality engineering solutions within a world-class shipbuilding environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer:
•Prepare specifications and develop Stage 1 auxiliary system design solutions in line with specifications and quality standards.
•Support and participate in the Zonal Integration process, ensuring the 3D model design reflects intent and complies with relevant standards.
•Contribute to the development and maintenance of engineering processes and procedures in response to technical and operational needs.
•Perform technical analyses and investigations, evaluating and selecting appropriate technical options.
•Prepare reports and recommendations to support problem resolution and improve engineering capability.
•Assist senior engineers with liaison between customers and suppliers to ensure effective communication, issue resolution, and alignment of priorities.
•Prepare design documentation including piping schematics, engineering change requests, and relevant calculations.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
•HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
•Proven experience in piped systems design, including pump and valve selection.
•Understanding of shipbuilding or complex engineering environments.
•Strong CAD and 3D modelling awareness (integration and design intent).
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team.
•BPSS clearance required prior to start.

The successful candidate would need to be flexible and prepared to work both alone and as part of a team on various tasks from high end super yacht products to pattern making and producing mould tools, also with the introduction of new and innovative paint and surface coatings be prepared to help develop and implement new processes to meet customer requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities of a paint sprayer:
- Filling and fairing various moulds to meet customer specification prior to application of various paint systems using various fillers to include AWL-FAIR prior to primer application
- Paint spraying GRP moulding using two pack polyester base coats and polyurethane top coats to high quality standards.
- Using a wide range of various paint systems Primers, base coats, clears, metallics, textured finishes and non-slip coatings.
- GRP mouldings to be finished ready to take subsequent paint systems
- Lacquers cut and polished to high gloss
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Good paint preparation skills, GRP surfaces made good for priming and application of base coats and lacquers, use of a wide range of tools to include orbital sanders, air saws, drills, sanding blocks.
- Previous experience in cutting and polishing paints and lacquers to a mirror finish.
- Experience working as a Paint Sprayer within Marine, Automotive or aviation industry.
- Previous experience in application of various paint systems and being able to follow Technical Data Sheets to ensure process is followed and recorded.
- An understanding of WFT and how this is measured.
- Any previous experience of working with carbon fibre would be beneficial but not essential.
- A good eye for detail is a must to ensure the highest standards are met to meet customer expectations.

The Design Engineer is responsible for developing commercial products from concept through launch, combining prototyping, CAD modeling, and testing with strong cross-functional collaboration.

Help engineer and validate products from concept through production, balancing performance, manufacturability, serviceability, regulatory compliance, cost targets, and brand requirements.
Build functional prototypes of increasing complexity using model making, 3D printing, machining, and other rapid prototyping methods to validate design requirements and user needs.
Apply CAD modeling along with the selection of appropriate prototype materials to ensure fulfillment of design specifications and DFM/DFA requirements.
Conduct prototype testing to validate performance, durability, safety, and compliance with applicable industry standards.
Analyze test results, consumer feedback, and field performance data to recommend product enhancements, cost reductions, and innovation opportunities.
Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, product management, marketing, and manufacturing to align technical solutions with business goals and customer expectations.
Partner with marketing, sales, and customer education teams to gather input that informs new product concepts and product line improvements.
Translate consumer insights and field data into actionable design requirements, ensuring products meet or exceeded customer expectations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering or design required.
Minimum of one to two years related work experience
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and PDM systems.
Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, and testing.
Strong knowledge of material properties, selection, and application.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, balance priorities, and collaborate effectively across functions.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Design Engineer assesses project requirements, gathers technical field data, determines design requirements, selects appropriate equipment, and provides drafting of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) restoration projects.
This role combines engineering expertise with drafting skills to ensure that projects are planned and constructed effectively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducts on-site visits and assessments to understand the specific scope and technical requirements of individual projects.
This includes evaluating existing HVAC systems, identifying issues or challenges, and testing equipment performance. • Determines scope and designs solutions for HVAC restoration projects via site visits and coordination with owner/facility staff. • Understands components and functions of existing mechanical systems being altered or renovated. • Exercises control over design and production tasks to enable HVAC restoration projects. • Drafts construction documents and generates specifications for HVAC restoration projects. • Utilizes in-house estimating tools to create project budgets. • Assists the sales team with scope reviews and support as needed. • Creates, maintains, and improves drafting tools and templates. • Determines the estimated cost of HVAC projects.
This includes calculating costs for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and any other expenses associated with the project. • Ensures a smooth transition from design to project execution, providing technical guidance and insights during and after construction. • Other duties as assigned by the manager.
