GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Maintenance Technician performs scheduled and unplanned plant process maintenance and repairs.
Responds to unscheduled maintenance issues as required.
Maintains parts inventories, submits purchase requisitions, and maintains equipment files.
Communicates job status as appropriate to operators, management, and other maintenance personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Troubleshoots, plans, modifies, and repairs/rebuilds all types of plant equipment Performs basic electrical troubleshooting, repair, and construction, as required Tests new or repaired equipment to assure satisfactory performance Modifies/fabricates as required, using welder, cutting torches and various machines and tools Keeps equipment, maintenance shop, and job sites in a clean and orderly condition Works in accordance with OSHA and Tremco safety policies and procedures Works from ladders, lifts, elevated places, and confined spaces, as required Documents work completed; reports job outcome/supplies Daily handoff /communication with other shifts Details job status as appropriate to operators, management, and other maintenance personnel Submits requisitions for repair/replacement parts, as necessary Enters MRO receipts in SAP system, maintains parts inventory/shop/equipment files/records Lifts up to 50 lbs., as required.
Heavier parts/materials will be handled using other methods Works with solvents, degreasers, lubricants, and other common industrial chemicals Works with minimal supervision Directs work of others, as required (contractors, operators, etc.) Researches equipment/facility needs, as appropriate, through manuals, files, internet, etc. Regular hours/shifts may vary as production and maintenance coverage needs dictate Must have thorough knowledge of all plant equipment, machinery, and processes Performs other job duties, as assigned

My client is looking to recruit a controls biassed commissioning engineer, to form part of a dedicated team whose primary focus is to transition our automated equipment from completion of build through to customer inspection and sign-off.
Managing Projects through to completion playing a large part in this role.

Key Responsibilities
The following list is an indication of roles and responsibilities you will be expected to undertake as a successful commissioning engineer.
The list is not exhaustive and intended as guidance only.
Individual tasks vary depending on the type of technical support you are providing, but in general, you'll need to:
- Programme and modify control systems using PLCs, Servo drives, Robots, and other specialised controllers specific to customer requirements.
- Troubleshoot & adjust mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and controls equipment.
- Fault finding and operational assessment of mechanisms both in isolation and in complex form.
- Modifying systems through electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or software means to enhance performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve a system with a view to presenting these to other team members.
- Perform tests, using structured processes, to build a defined understanding of a mechanisms limitations.
- Record test results in suitable manner such that they can be used to support the necessity/direction of further work.
- Ensure records of all modifications are documented correctly.
- Provide proactive feedback to the project team to enable project progress to be determined.
- Participate in internal design reviews on existing or potential projects.
- You may be required to attend and work at customer premises throughout the UK and overseas.
The Right Person
The successful Commissioning Engineer will have the relevant vocational training or will have completed a recognised apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical discipline as well as possessing the following attributes and skills:
- Experience programming Programmable Logic controllers (PLC), and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) using software such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Festo, Codesys, Siemens.
- Knowledge of setting up Servos, VFDs, Remote I/O, Ethernet and Profibus networks.
- Proven electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical experience within the automation industry.
- Ability to follow electrical and pneumatic schematic diagrams and drawings.
- Knowledge of 6 Axis Robot systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of script-based programming would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:
- Execute routine and critical real-time spacecraft operations
- Act as Systems Operations Engineer (SOE), Mission Planner, and Spacecraft Controller across mission phases
- Develop operational tools, scripts, and software to enhance operational efficiency and safety
- Contribute to planning, scheduling, and documentation (e.g., procedures, user manuals, ops plans)
- Support system-level and subsystem-level reviews (PDR, CDR, ORR, etc.)
- Participate in on-call support, health and performance analysis, anomaly investigations, and rehearsal campaigns
- Innovate new operational concepts and help implement scalable, multi-mission solutions
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- 35 years experience in real-time satellite operations, ideally in LEO missions
- Strong knowledge of satellite subsystems (especially AOCS/GNC or OBDH)
- Experience with mission control systems and procedure development
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a small-team environment
- Fluent in English (CEFR Level B2 or TOEIC 700+)
Desired (Not Essential):
- Familiarity with SCOS-2000 mission control systems
- Experience in formation flying or proximity operations
- Understanding of flight dynamics, ECSS standards, and mission prep tools

Proficiency in high-level programming languages, particularly C, C++, and C#
Experience with real-time programming
Strong background in multi-threaded and multi-process programming
