The below job description will outline this position of: Service Controller
Typically, this person will coordinate and manage a team of marine service engineers, supporting planned maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency call-outs for marine diesel engines and generator systems.
You will be responsible for service scheduling, technical support, and ensuring work is carried out to the highest standards, including compliance with maritime safety and regulatory requirements.
HSB Technical’s client is an established and well-regarded business entity within the marine diesel engine and power systems sector.
Duties and responsibilities of the Service Controller:
• Respond to customer queries and emergency breakdown requests across commercial, defence, and leisure marine sectors
• Schedule and dispatch marine service engineers based on skillset, location, and urgency
• Plan and monitor service jobs including vessel inspections, diagnostics, repairs, overhauls, and commissioning activities
• Accurately open, update, and close work orders ensuring full compliance with documentation, billing, and reporting standards
• Oversee approximately 100 live service orders per month, valued at approx.
£300k
• Act as a key liaison between engineering teams, clients, and other stakeholders such as port authorities or shipyard managers
• Track real-time job progress and keep clients updated throughout the service lifecycle
• Conduct regular 1-2-1s, performance reviews, and toolbox talks with a team of 4–8 engineers
• Ensure safety and operational compliance across shipyard, dockside, and on-board environments
• Drive key service KPIs including First Time Fix, promise date adherence, and profitability metrics
Qualifications and requirements for the Service Controller:
• Recognised engineering qualification (mechanical/marine) or equivalent experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience within the marine diesel engine or generator engine industry
• Strong understanding of marine power and propulsion systems including main engines, auxiliary engines, and supporting systems (fuel, cooling, exhaust, control)
• Proven experience in managing or coordinating field service engineers
• Excellent planning, scheduling, and problem-solving skills
• IT literate, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and service/job management systems (e.g.
SAP, DBSi, or similar)
• Understanding of maritime safety legislation and class society standards is desirable
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills

Role and Duties:

- Assist the relevant office personnel by providing estimated timings (set up and run), material requirements and any additional tooling / jigging required for the purposes of quoting
- Modify machine speed, tooling and cutting style to ensure precision and accuracy of manufactured parts
- Oversee cutting process, adjust where necessary throughout each job, catch mistakes as they happen and take necessary measure to eliminate errors
- Inspect all finished products for accuracy and uniformity to ensure product quality and uphold company reputation, including dimensional and surface measurements
- Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance tasks to ensure machine longevity, including lubrication, coolant, cleaning and tool replacement
- Assist with work scheduling
- Ensure correct hygiene standards are adhered to for own work and surrounding areas
Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience in CNC XYZ Machining (Milling essential)
- XYZ Programming and interpreting CNC software
- Experience of working on ProtoTRAK or Siemens 828D Controls
- If you have experience with one of these controls, then training can be provided on the other
- Supervisory experience or interested in progressing into this type of role
- Experience of reading and working to drawings, including tolerances and dimensions
- Pro-active Communication with colleagues and customers to ensure excellent customer service

Proactive problem solving based on statistical analysis of corrective actions / assigned by Engineering Director, Plant Manufacturing Manager, QA, EHS projects. - Confident in writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

The Process Engineer provides process engineering support for raw materials, compounding, production and packaging functions to improve safety, quality, service and cost efficiencies in the operations area in the Pacific, MO manufacturing plant.
Responsibilities
Support daily production needs through process troubleshooting, experimentation and support for production requirements. Work with project managers on designing and installing PLC controls for capital projects. Work with Allen-Bradley PLC's to maintain and improve current operations. Lead continuous improvement projects to reduce cost, increase material utilization, improve first time right, integrate new products/processes into production and reduce variation. Implement necessary changes and update all documentation (including drawings and SOP's) accordingly. Coordinates with plant engineer to oversee capital projects necessary for the continued improvement and modernization of the plant. Ensure completion of projects within budgets. Responsible for achieving and maintaining safety goals relative to the maintenance and engineering functions.

Create and maintain P&IDs for current and future processes. Troubleshooting machinery, including PLC coding adjustments.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial engineering. 0 to 3 years' experience in manufacturing environment.
Six Sigma/lean manufacturing experience.
Safety and ergonomic experience. Understanding of process control methods, flowmeters, level monitors, and other process controls within a batch manufacturing process.
Mechanically inclined with a hands-on approach Previous Capital Project experience Ability to read and interpret process drawings Strong interpersonal skills: good communication skills both written and verbal. Strong Analytical & Troubleshooting skills.
PC usage with MS Office Suite Strong AutoCAD skillset.
(3D design utilizing Inventor Professional or Solidworks is plus) Experience with PLC's, Allen Bradley is desired.
