Job Description:
HSB Technical Ltd is working with a leading marine organisation to recruit a Vessel Superintendent (Ref: 1613/36).
This is a fantastic opportunity to manage a fleet of offshore vessels while ensuring safe and efficient technical operations.
You’ll be responsible for all aspects of the vessels’ performance, ensuring they remain compliant, seaworthy, and operating within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day technical operations of assigned offshore vessels.
Ensure vessels remain “In Class” and comply with SOLAS, IMO, Class, Flag, and environmental regulations.
Engage with Senior Officers onboard to drive crew and vessel performance.
Collaborate with internal teams to prepare dry dock specifications and schedules.
Maintain vessel budgets, report weekly, and forecast potential overspend.
Supervise port calls and manage attending contractors and safety documentation.
Monitor engine room logs and overall vessel condition.
Liaise with Class, Port State, and Flag representatives for surveys and inspections.
Participate in out-of-hours support rota and emergency response duties.
Promote HSEQ standards across all assigned assets.
Experience Required:
Sea-going Chief Engineer (or equivalent) with relevant offshore support experience.
Previous experience in a shore-based technical role (e.g.
Vessel Superintendent) preferred.
Strong understanding of ship systems, statutory requirements, and compliance frameworks.

Typically, this person will be responsible for the electronic commissioning and technical support of the companies product.
This product is a mechanical product which is electrically controlled and is sold to customers in the maritime world globally, however - this persons patch is the EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa).
You will be the companies on-site representative, talking to customers, distributors and service agents covering commissioning, repairs, maintenance as well as emergency breakdown cover as required.
Extensive travel for durations of roughly 5 days, home most weekends will be required.

Duties and responsibilities of the Marine Electronic Commissioning Engineer:
Commissioning: Perform installation checks, configuration, and commissioning of the product and it's electronic control systems, including sea trials, class trials (DNV, BV and ABS) and Dynamic Positioning trials.
Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct routine maintenance, inspections and repairs of the systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues and implement timely and effective solutions.
Customer Support: Provide technical assistance and support to customers, both remotely and on-site, by addressing their inquiries, resolving technical problems, and offering guidance on system operation and maintenance best practices.
Training and Documentation: Train customers on the proper use, operation, and maintenance of the systems.
Develop and update technical documentation, including manuals, troubleshooting guides, and service reports.
Field Testing: Collaborate with internal teams and participate in field tests and trials of new products, collecting feedback and suggesting improvements to enhance system performance and functionality.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and sales representatives, to ensure seamless coordination and timely resolution of customer issues.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies during all field operations.
Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures.
Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and product advancements in the maritime industry.

Qualifications and requirements for the Marine Electronic Commissioning Engineer:
Education: UK Level 5 awards (HND, Foundation degree) or higher in Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Service Engineer or similar role in the maritime industry preferred however, applicants from other industries (e.g., military, automotive) will be seriously considered.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electronic control systems - Familiarity with mechanical drive systems, bearings, and hydraulics.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Skills: Proficient in identifying, analysing, and resolving technical issues in electronic control systems.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and software effectively.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally, and work in challenging environments, including ships at sea.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

What will you be doing?
Overseeing the installation phase of marine engineering projects, from equipment delivery through commissioning and handover.
Developing detailed installation plans aligned with the wider project scope and timelines.
Managing cross-functional teams and coordinating stakeholders including clients, shipyards, and classification societies.
Leading installation execution, monitoring progress, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with HSE and quality standards.
Controlling project budgets and ensuring profitable delivery.
Supporting continuous team development in a matrix management setup.
Are you the ideal candidate?
10+ years' experience in project management within the marine, shipyard, or retrofit sectors.
Proven experience working with shipowners, yards, and classification bodies.
Hands-on experience managing installations, preferably in international environments.
Degree in Mechanical/Marine/Electrical Engineering or Naval Architecture.
Fluent in English and Mandarin (minimum CET4).
Willing to travel globally and occasionally sail onboard vessels.
Project Management qualifications preferred.

We are currently partnered with a well-established engineering company based in Portsmouth, renowned for their work in marine, offshore maintenance, repair, and shipbuilding.
Their operations span across military, commercial shipping, and energy sectors, providing high-quality fabrication, installation, and maintenance solutions.
Due to ongoing project demands, particularly a split barge project and upcoming marine refit work, we are seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join the team on a long-term basis, with a strong view to permanent employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform MIG and MAG welding on mild steel components for marine and offshore structures
Fabricate and weld steel plates of various thicknesses to high-quality marine-grade standards
Interpret and work from technical and engineering drawings to ensure accurate fabrication
Carry out burning/cutting operations using Oxy-Propane equipment
Assist in fabrication, installation, repair and modification of marine structures and equipment
Support dry dock and shipyard repair activities, including shell plating, structural stiffeners, and reinforcement work
Operate general workshop machinery and hand tools, including:
Guillotines
Hydraulic steel workers
Angle grinders and gas torches
Carry out work in both workshop and in-situ on marine vessels, occasionally in confined spaces and at heights
Maintain safe working practices in accordance with company HSE procedures and site-specific safety protocols
Essential Requirements:
Proven experience in MIG & MAG welding of mild steel in a marine or heavy industrial environment
Ability to support both workshop-based fabrication and onboard vessel repairs and modifications
Competency in steel burning, measuring, marking out, and assembly techniques
Full UK Driving Licence
Willingness to work occasional weekends, and travel for short durations to support offshore or dockside projects if required
Eligibility to work on MOD sites – successful candidates must be able to pass BPSS security clearance (arranged and funded by the client)
A strong work ethic, ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Desirable (but not essential):
Current or previous MOD site experience
Familiarity with Lloyds or DNV welding standards
Confined space or working at height certifications
Experience with marine vessel repairs, e.g., split barges, workboats, ferries, or offshore support vessels
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday: 07:00 – 17:30
Overtime: Paid at time and a third from 15:30 – 17:30
Breaks:
Morning: 10:00 – 10:15
Lunch: 13:00 – 13:30
