GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering support to the assigned program and/or area to ensure the product is processed in accordance with customer and division quality requirements while maintaining production flow.
Charged with developing and maintaining systems to ensure that all products manufactured by the plant meet customer specifications and achieve superior and reliability levels.
Responsible for investigating and implementing new process technology at the plant.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing the plant.
This position is responsible for influencing the development of preventative maintenance programs at the facility and will have a significant role in capital improvement plans while assisting in work area design, plant layout, visual control and metric implementation, material flow, process tracking, and communication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of the finished product.
Participate in plant metric reporting.
Coordinate quality control objectives and activities as detailed in the facility site plan to resolve any production problems that may occur, maximize product consistency, and minimize cost.
Prepare estimates of production costs and production progress reports for management.
Design measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments and in pilot plant operations.
Use SAP to monitor production/business functions.
Provides engineering expertise for all operations in the plant.
Must be the subject matter expert regarding all manufacturing equipment and processes at the plant.
Recommend modifications to current processes and equipment; document and follow up with process engineers responsible for the modifications.
Works with the plant engineers and maintenance to influence the direction of preventative maintenance best practices.
Support a high-performance results-oriented culture and maintain high standards of safety and compliance.
Provide technical and operational leadership for equipment and facility maintenance and improvements.
Deliver disciplined project management and product development assistance.
Regular review of batch first pass yield, production quality, distressed, obsolete, scrap, and returned material.
Troubleshoot and implement repeatability best practices.
Assist in the identification of capital requirements for the facilities' annual capital plans and budgets.
Lead investigations into equipment failures, difficulties, and deficiencies.
Interface with leadership, operators, and maintenance to ensure continuous improvement and continuous production.
Develop and streamline their critical metrics and assist when necessary.
Assist in the development of site metrics and KPI's Implementation and continued support of PIE.
Perform a job in accordance with all Tremco safety policies and procedures.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree (B.
S.) in mechanical or electrical engineering.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
6+ Years' experience performing Engineering duties/responsibilities in a Manufacturing Environment preferred.
Continuous web process and batch process equipment experience preferred.
OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Create standard work instructions/SOPs.
Demonstrate knowledge of arithmetic, statistics, continuous improvement concepts, ISO procedures, and their applications.

The Batch Maker is responsible for processing Tremco Sealants and/or Roofing products by carefully reading and following the process order card.
This position maintains area readiness to produce.
This includes safety, and the collection and preparation of materials like pails, drums, and other chemical raw materials.
Once a batch is complete, the operator will test for quality, adjust as needed to assure specifications are met by following written standard operating procedures, and then fill product into specified packaging and palletize pails or drums.
We are currently looking for an individual to fill a Temporary Batch Maker position at our manufacturing plant in Medina, Ohio.
If the employee meets certain criteria over a period, this position could become a regular full-time position.
Duties/Responsibilities, Core knowledge:
Handles batch-making responsibilities in all departments.
Trained to make all formulations- i.e., Roof coating, Latex, and Solvent departments.
Responsible for housekeeping in the work area.
Reports raw material/equipment needs to the Production Manager.
Helps maintain inventory levels/cycle counts.
Fills batches according to need- i.e., 1's, 5's, 55's or totes (domestic or export).
Operates tow motor.
Shop floor reporting.
Submit a batch sample to the QC lab for approval and retain it before filling.

Computer literacy is required; a basic understanding of ERP systems like SAP is helpful.

This role provides expert consultation in industrial liquid and powder coating technologies, leads complex troubleshooting efforts, performs technical audits, delivers customer training, and identifies opportunities to improve process efficiency, quality, and productivity.
The successful candidate combines extensive coatings knowledge with exceptional problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills to help customers maximize the performance of their coating operations.
Main Responsibilities
Technical Support & Customer Service
Provide advanced technical support to customers, distributors, prospects, and internal teams regarding liquid and powder coating technologies.
Serve as the primary technical resource for complex application issues, product performance concerns, and process optimization.
Build strong customer relationships by delivering responsive, value-added technical service.
Support sales and marketing initiatives through technical expertise and customer engagement.
Process Optimization & Troubleshooting
Lead investigations into coating defects, equipment performance, and process variability.
Conduct root cause analysis utilizing methodologies including:

5 Why Analysis
Fishbone Analysis
Statistical Process Control
Design of Experiments (DOE)
Diagnosing and resolving issues including:
Adhesion failures
Orange peel
Solvent pop

Coating Systems Expertise
Provide technical expertise across industrial finishing operations including:
Liquid coating systems
Powder coating systems
Pretreatment processes
Surface preparation
Material handling systems
Conveyor systems
Cure technologies
Automated and robotic application systems
Maintain expert knowledge of coating chemistries including solventborne, waterborne, high-solids, epoxy, polyurethane, alkyd, polyester, hybrid, acrylic, and architectural coating systems.
Laboratory Testing & Process Validation
Perform and interpret laboratory and field testing in accordance with ASTM, PCI, AAMA, ISO, and customer specifications.

DSC
XRF
MEK Resistance
Gloss Measurement
Color Analysis
Impact Testing
Flexibility Testing
Hardness Testing
Operate Datapaq equipment and analyze thermal profiles to validate curing processes.
Interpret laboratory results and correlate testing data with customer specifications and manufacturing performance.
Auditing, Reporting & Training
Conduct technical audits, certification assessments, and process evaluations.
Develop detailed technical reports documenting observations, findings, corrective actions, and recommendations.
Deliver technical training programs for customers, distributors, sales personnel, and manufacturing teams.
Present technical information clearly to groups of varying technical backgrounds.
Represent the company at customer events, industry meetings, and technical seminars.
Collaboration & Leadership
Partner with Sales, Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to support customer success.
Lead technical initiatives that improve customer productivity, product performance, and operational efficiency.
Promote continuous improvement through technical expertise and best-practice sharing.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in industrial coatings with demonstrated expertise in liquid coating technologies and strong working knowledge of powder coating systems.
Extensive knowledge of industrial finishing processes including pretreatment, application equipment, curing technologies, and process optimization.
Experience in performing technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis in manufacturing environments.
Demonstrated experience conducting laboratory and field evaluations using recognized industry testing standards.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical reports and deliver presentations.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Valid passport or ability to obtain one.
Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight travel (approximately 50-70%, depending on business needs).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting OEM, agricultural, architectural, transportation, heavy equipment, or general industrial finishing operations.
Knowledge of automated and robotic coating application systems.
Experience with powder coating reclaim systems and process optimization.
Experience conducting applicator certification audits.
Familiarity with ASTM, PCI, AAMA, and ISO testing standards.
Experience using statistical analysis and continuous improvement methodologies such as SPC, DOE, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
Experience delivering technical presentations and customer training programs.
Working knowledge of infrared, convection, catalytic, and combination curing technologies.
Experience with laboratory instrumentation including FTIR, DSC, XRF, Datapaq, and color measurement systems.
Demonstrated success building long-term customer partnerships through technical consulting and service excellence.
