JOB DESCRIPTION
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Executes tasks of quality control testing, including analyzing, recording and reporting accurate results in a timely fashion. Communicates results with the Process Chemist and if directed, Plant Operators/Supervisor.
Participates in R&D & technical services projects to include gathering necessary raw materials / intermediates.
Assists when requested in testing of materials being worked on related to R&D or Process Improvement • Collects and prepares high quality, accurate samples for customers and prepares for shipment. Maintains clean and organized lab work area. As directed, manages lab chemical inventory and stock /storage room re-organization.
Participates in all environmental and safety training as required by Federal, State, County, and Local regulations as well as company policies.
Suggests improvements for safety and compliance.
Promptly reports any safety incidents and participates in incident investigations as requested. Additional duties may be added or removed as management requires.
Placement Criteria:
Minimum education and practical work experience: bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related field and 1-5 years' experience working in an analytical lab or similar position, or a suitable combination of education and relevant experience. Specialized technical/aptitude experience: minimum of 1-5 years' experience and demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with gravimetric and analytic techniques. Extensive knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the chemical manufacturing industry; previous work and/or substantial knowledge of, including commonlyused concepts, practices, and procedures, within in the thermoset polymer industry is a strongly considered asset.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize workflow and organize diverse material and ability to handle multiple, competing and changing priorities; ability to perform effectively and problem solve without supervision and within established time limits and ongoing deadlines. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing, and to provide exceptional service internally and externally. Relevant computer skills for this position include knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications and instrumental software.

Other duties may be assigned. Weigh and/or measure out quantities of solvents, resins, pigments (or dispersions), and additives into blending tanks or grinding mills according to a batch ticket. Request raw materials for use in formulas.
Position requires knowledge of batch making techniques, machinery operation, scales and meter use, and formula knowledge.

JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL SUMMARY
Make all intermediates and finished products by adding specific quantities of certain raw materials and/or intermediates to a batch tank or grinding mill according to a written formula using proper batch making techniques and safe methods.
This position also requires application and monitoring of established quality procedures and methods for production batches.
Compiles, tabulates and summarizes QC data for analysis.
Prepares and offers constructive criticisms relative to variables and deviations from prescribed standards of quality.
Maintains statistical records having to do with quality, nature and causes of defects.
Expedites and follows up changes to allow for prescribed quality standards.
Request raw materials for use in formulas.
Position requires knowledge of batch making techniques, machinery operation, scales and meter use, and formula knowledge.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned. Weigh and/or measure out quantities of solvents, resins, pigments (or dispersions), and additives into blending tanks or grinding mills according to a batch ticket. Tend mixing or grinding equipment and maintain control over time, heat, mix speed, etc. Upon batch completion, take product sample to QC Lab for QC checks. Check production batches by comparison to standards Make adjustments to batch as necessary Recheck batch after adjustments are made until product is within standard product specifications Use proper analytical tools to compare product to standard specs and to wet and/or dry samples Record results of comparison and record onto batch card Consult with Main Lab chemist on products more than 10% out of product specifications Upon approval of product record data onto Quality Control car and enter information into computer data base Consult QC manual for specific requirements for product analysis of production batches and customers special requirements Calibrate QC equipment as required Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager Maintain work area in a neat and orderly fashion.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:
With guidance from research management or more senior professionals, ensures that research activities in the section/group laboratories and associated operations are in compliance with the safety policies and programs of the company, as well as, local, state and federal regulations. With guidance from research management or more senior professionals, ensures that research activities in the section/group laboratories and associated operations are in compliance with the company's environmental policies and programs through execution of assigned responsibilities for reducing waste and promoting environmental protection. With guidance from research management or more senior professionals, plans and conducts experimental programs to complete a phase of a project or a number of projects of minor scope. Under close supervision, conducts research on and testing of improvement of existing products, development of new products and technology and may include routine to complex synthesis or testing.
Assignment maybe a phase of a major project or a total project of minor scope. With minimal supervision from more experienced professionals, conducts routine synthesis or testing which provide experience and familiarization with methods, practices and programs (analytical, performance, physical properties, etc.). Under the guidance of more senior professionals or research management, acquires knowledge of NALCO Champion products, procedures and applications. Interfaces with section personnel in trouble-shooting problems with hardware, testing/synthesis equipment, product and methods development. May be responsible for timely calibration and maintenance of the various laboratory and equipment and documentation according to the company's business processes. With minimal guidance, conducts literature searches and gathers pertinent information related to specific topics. Under minimal supervision, compile, analyze and correlate technical data and writes timely reports on projects completed or progress reports.
Writes procedures in accordance with the company's business practices. Works with research management to formulate goals aligned with the executive leadership's initiatives and for professional growth.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (special skills, knowledge, ability, education, etc.):
Requires a B.S.
in Chemistry or related technical field or can be progressed from Assist Chemist (performance-based and tested) Good communication (oral and written) skills. Proficiency in computer programs necessary for writing reports and performing mathematical calculations. Knowledge of specialized scientific programs for molecular structure drawing, experimental design and statistics is a plus. Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship
Wage: 28.00 per hour.
This position is 12.5% annual bonus eligible.
