Description
Oldham Council is looking for 17 experienced and committed Children's Social Workers to join our Safeguarding & Child Protection (CP) Team.

Responsibilities
Undertake assessments and develop Care & Support Plans for children and families in need of safeguarding and protection.
Respond to crisis situations, using appropriate interventions to safeguard children at risk.
Manage complex caseloads, working closely with multi-agency professionals to deliver high-quality support.
Prepare reports for court proceedings, case conferences, and reviews, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards.
Advocate for children and families, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
Contribute to a learning culture, sharing skills and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
Requirements
Qualifications: Degree in Social Work and registration with Social Work England.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience, ideally in safeguarding/child protection, but we welcome applications from those with experience in other areas such as Assessment & Intervention.
Skills: Strong assessment, risk management, and decision-making skills.
Knowledge: A thorough understanding of child protection legislation, policies, and procedures.
Other Requirements: A full driving licence or ability to travel across Oldham.

Depending on your team, your role will involve:
Intake Team:
Managing referrals, conducting assessments, and undertaking Section 47 enquiries.
Determining whether families require longer-term plans or court involvement.
Fast-paced, varied work with immediate impact on children's lives.
Family Support Team:
Building longer-term relationships with families, managing risks, and promoting resilience.
Supporting families to achieve their goals and manage care and protection plans.
Purposeful, relationship-focused work with clear long-term objectives.
Placement Team:
Working closely with foster carers, residential settings, and placements to ensure children thrive.
Across all teams, you will work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, manage complex cases, and contribute to positive outcomes for children and families.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
A recognised Degree or Diploma in Social Work (e.g., Degree, DipSW, CQSW).
Registration with Social Care Wales.
Experience working with children, young people, and families with complex needs.
Strong knowledge of The Children Act and other child care legislation and standards.
Experience in multi-agency collaboration.
