Housing Options and Homelessness Prevention Specialist
Summary: Join our team as a specialist Housing Options and Homelessness Prevention Officer to provide vital support to members of the public facing housing crises.

This role focuses on delivering comprehensive housing options, choice-based lettings (CBL), and homelessness prevention services, ensuring individuals receive tailored assistance to secure suitable accommodation and prevent homelessness.


Key Responsibilities:

• Assess customers' housing needs and options, developing personalized housing plans.


• Prevent homelessness by identifying alternative housing solutions and offering immediate support to those at risk.


• Place individuals in emergency accommodation or temporary housing when necessary.


• Make critical decisions regarding statutory homelessness duties and issue formal notifications accordingly.


• Provide advice and information to both statutory and voluntary agencies on housing-related matters.


• Support customers through the homelessness application process, coordinating support from colleagues and professionals.


• Deliver enhanced housing options services by offering advice on related areas such as debt and employment.


• Offer guidance on landlord-tenant law and assess housing need in line with lettings policies and CBL systems.


• Engage with customers with diverse needs, including those with complex issues such as mental health, substance misuse, or domestic abuse histories.

Candidate Requirements:

• Previous experience in housing options, choice-based lettings, or homelessness prevention.


• Strong understanding of landlord-tenant law and housing policies.


• Ability to assess complex needs and provide tailored support accordingly.


• Excellent decision-making skills, particularly in high-pressure situations.


• Experience working with vulnerable individuals, including those with mental health issues or substance misuse.


• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.


• DBS clearance required.
