Plant Operative


Service Care Solutions have an opportunity for an experienced Plant Operative to work for a local authority between Croft and Mountsorrel in Leicestershire.



Working 5 days out of 7, including working outside of normal working hours, you will tasked with working as a part of a team to deliver a quality service for the Environments Team.



Key Responsibilities will include:



  • Operate heavy plant, such as tractors, roadmenders, multi-hog and other horticultural machinery.

  • Work safely on the live public highway, observing Traffic Management requirements at all times.

  • Work on a range of highways activities such as grass, verge and hedgerow cutting, small to medium patching works and other general maintenance activities.



Requirements of the job:



  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills sufficient to interpret and follow works instructions.

  • CSCS H&S Test Pass Certificate.

  • Skilled Road-worker Trades Test Assessment.

  • NVQ level 2 in Highway Maintenance or similar.

  • Extensive ability to take measurements and make calculations (e.g.

    areas, volumes and weights.

  • Extensive knowledge of safe working practices using plant and machinery.

  • Traffic Management requirements when working on the live highway.

  • Ability to drive a range of heavy plant, and/or other horticultural equipment.

  • Accredited and relevant H&S Training Records and Certification (e.g.

    NPORS plant operator, IOSH working safely, Appointed Person, etc).

  • Valid driving license and able to provide own transport.

  • Prepared to work in adverse weather & site (e.g.

    rain, cold, heat, dust, dirt, uneven ground etc.).




Additional information:



  • The nature of the work may involve the jobholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours, including working at nights and weekends.

  • Working hours will start and finish at site or at a Depo.

  • The postholder will be responsible for getting themselves to/from either the depot or site.

  • To attend Health Surveillance appointments as required

  • The postholder may be required to attend, from time to time, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by his/her own training needs and the needs of the service.


  • Expenses will be paid in accordance with the Local Conditions of Service.
