Job Description


Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in Wiltshire for a Payroll Officer to join the team on a temporary basis.

The postholder will provide a payroll service to the council and a range of other (external) public bodies including the provision of advice to the council and to the council employees on payroll related matters.



Main Responsibilities



  • To provide Payroll support within the Payroll Processing Team (Traded or Non-Traded) for processes to provide an efficient and professional ‘frontline' payroll service within Council policies and procedures within any contractual arrangements in place for external clients

  • To assist in ensuring all of the appropriate Council processes relating to the payroll function carried out in a controlled, timely and efficient way in rests of the Council's workforce and for other clients.

  • To ensure that deadlines are met for input, the production of correspondence and for records management and that all necessary tasks are performed taking into account on internal Council policy and procedure and contractual arrangements in place for external clients.

  • To be accountable for completion of allocated payroll activities and requestions for assistance, referring issues to the technical payroll team where appropriate.

  • Control and maintain the information system and carry out associated payroll processes including:

    • Interpreting Pay information contained on appropriate forms and claims, dealing with resulting queries.

    • Updating employees personal and salary details.

    • Accurately file and assist with the management of employee records within the HR business site.

    • Ensuring all relevant pre-employment checks have been carried out.





Candidate Criteria



  • A levels or equivalent or relevant experience

  • Experience of working in an administrative role within a large organisation, preferably within the public sector.

  • Experience of payroll administration or payroll processes would be highly desirable.

  • Good knowledge of Local Government procedures and protocols and comprised HR/Payroll systems, ideally Oracle.

  • IT and customer service skills - telephone, face to face, email, results driven in meeting tight deadlines.
