Job Title: Technical Assistant
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Barnsley, S71 (office based)
Contract Type: Temporary ongoing until end of year minimum
Work Pattern: 37 hours per week Monday to Friday

Job Purpose

To provide, develop and manage the technical support of the Highway's Asset service, provide technical and financial support to senior management requiring a broad knowledge of the specialist / technical areas of the service.

Ensure costs incurred from third party damage are recovered to the service.

This is a front line post and as such is required to deal with enquiries/complaints/requests from a variety of sources.

Duties



  • Ensure detailed comprehensive and accurate data and information is provided and recorded securely and confidentially in accordance with Audit and other regulatory requirements.

  • Serve notices and permits in accordance with the relevant legislation, monitor status and update system as required.

  • Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including managers, employees, councillors, members of the public ,contractors , ensuring information and communication links are maintained.

    Resolving complex queries where necessary.

  • Respond to and resolve queries and reports of emergencies/dangerous defects ensuring appropriate action is taken.

  • Carry out full investigations including liaison with outside bodies (ie SY Police, SY Fire & Rescue Service) into incidents on the highway to establish liability.


  • Undertake financial administration including placing purchase orders, goods receipting, invoicing, credits, receipt of cheques, calculate costs incurred by the service and to deal with any invoice queries/disputes/difficult customers and organising credits/debits where necessary.


  • To design, implement and manage comprehensive systems to support the work of the section involving the use of various software packages.

    Ensure detailed comprehensive and accurate data and information is provided and recorded securely and confidentially in accordance with Audit and other regulatory requirements.

  • Responsible for setting up contracts and ensuring these are maintained and renewed.

  • To assist with the development of initiatives in relation to best practice in the field and assist in the implementation process.


Essential criteria:



  • Extensive experience in an Operational depot or technical environment

  • Experience of working with sensitive and highly confidential information.

  • Experience in using and maintaining computerised systems

  • Experience of using Microsoft packages for processing, presenting and manipulating data.
