Hostel Caretaker

Service Care Solutions have a vacancy for a Hostel Caretaker to join a local authority based in East London on a temporary contract.


Working out of Hackney, you will be responsible for maintaining the grounds and public access areas at a number of Hostels in the borough.

You will be the point of contact and act on all daily maintenance works, escalating as appropriate to management.



Summary of Tasks & Responsibilities:



  • Act as the responsible maintenance officer for the Hostels ensuring that the premises are secure, safe and maintained to required standards

  • Be responsible for Health and Safety on site, and main point of contact for residents, contractors and ground staff

  • Act as the responsible maintenance individual for all equipment, machinery and fixtures in the Hostels

  • Attend to cleaning and maintenance tasks in compliance with schedules and frequencies

  • Report Emergencies, repairs and any incidents of vandalism

  • Assisting with setting up for events taking place at the hostel

  • Manage bin areas including disinfect, rotate position for collection, deep clean etc.

  • Act as the Key holder for the buildings

  • Ensure car parks are managed efficiently and effectively

  • Responsibility for the storage of and use of chemicals, in line with COSHH regulations

  • be responsible for regular building condition checks to identify maintenance issues and areas of risk relating to Health & Safety.


  • Carry out fire safety and fire alarm checks

  • Liaise with external contractors



The ideal candidate for the role;



  • Previous experience of cleaning and caretaking or similar

  • Good customer service skills and can remain courteous and polite at all times

  • Good understanding of Legionella

  • Hold a Full UK Driving License

  • Flexible to work weekends and on bank holidays



Applicants will need to have an understanding of Health and Safety, be customer focused, with strong communication skills.

Ideally, you will have knowledge of COSHH Regulations
