Locum Band 6/7 Speech and Language Therapist - Paediatric Dysphagia

We are seeking an experienced Locum Band 6 or 7 Speech and Language Therapist to provide specialised support in paediatric dysphagia.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate clinician to work within a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality care to children with complex swallowing and feeding difficulties.


You will work with paediatric patients across a variety of settings, assessing, diagnosing, and treating children with dysphagia and related communication difficulties.

This role will require you to be highly skilled in paediatric dysphagia, as well as be able to collaborate effectively with families and other healthcare professionals.



Key Responsibilities



  • Conduct assessments of children with swallowing, feeding, and communication difficulties.

  • Provide diagnosis and develop individualised treatment plans for paediatric dysphagia patients.

  • Deliver evidence-based interventions for children with dysphagia, including feeding therapy, mealtime support, and swallowing rehabilitation.

  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including paediatricians, occupational therapists, dietitians, and nursing staff, to provide holistic care.

  • Support families and caregivers, offering training, advice, and emotional support regarding feeding and swallowing strategies.

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in accordance with trust policies and professional standards.

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, providing expertise and recommendations for the management of dysphagia cases.

  • Provide training and guidance to other healthcare professionals and support staff regarding paediatric feeding and swallowing issues.

  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives within the Speech and Language Therapy department.

  • Stay updated with the latest evidence-based practices in paediatric dysphagia and speech and language therapy.



Skills and Qualifications



  • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification.

  • Band 6 or 7 level experience in paediatric dysphagia, with a demonstrated ability to assess and manage complex feeding and swallowing disorders in children.

  • Experience working with paediatric patients in a clinical or community setting, including working with children with learning disabilities, neurological disorders, or developmental delays.

  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement individualised care plans.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams effectively.

  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise tasks within a busy and dynamic environment.

  • Experience in providing training and support to other professionals and caregivers.

  • Knowledge of current clinical guidelines and evidence-based practices related to paediatric dysphagia.

  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
