Locum Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist - Voice Specialist (Outpatients)

We are currently seeking an experienced Locum Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with a specialisation in voice disorders to join the Outpatients Team in East Surrey and Crawley Hospital.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary setting to assess and treat adults and children with a range of voice disorders, including functional, organic, and neurological conditions.

Key Responsibilities



  • Conduct thorough assessments of voice function, including videostroboscopy and acoustic analysis, as required.

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with voice disorders, including those related to neurological conditions, functional issues, and laryngeal pathologies.

  • Provide therapy for voice rehabilitation, focusing on both the physical and emotional aspects of voice recovery.

  • Deliver one-on-one therapy sessions and group sessions to address voice-related concerns, including professional voice users, singers, and individuals with occupational voice demands.

  • Work collaboratively with ENT specialists, laryngologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care.

  • Support patients in managing vocal hygiene, improving vocal strength, and preventing voice strain or injury.

  • Offer expert advice and education to patients and caregivers about voice care and prevention strategies.

  • Document patient progress, maintaining up-to-date clinical records in line with organizational standards.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussions, and case reviews.

  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives and voice-related research projects.



Requirements



  • HCPC Registered Speech and Language Therapist.

  • Post-graduate experience and expertise in the assessment and management of voice disorders.

  • Experience working with a wide range of voice disorders, including functional, organic, and neurological voice issues.

  • Specialist training in voice therapy techniques and relevant voice diagnostic tools (e.g., videostroboscopy, acoustic analysis).

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage patients and provide effective education and advice.

  • Strong team-working skills and the ability to collaborate with other healthcare professionals.

  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain one).

  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.



Desirable



  • Experience of working in an outpatient or ENT clinic setting.

  • Advanced training in specific voice therapy techniques, such as Resonant Voice Therapy, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), or similar approaches.

  • Experience working with professional voice users (e.g., singers, teachers, actors).
