Children's Residential Support Worker - Learning Disabilities, Autism & Trauma - Chelmsford


We are currently recruiting full-time Residential Support Workers to join a 4-bed children's home supporting young people aged 12-17 with learning disabilities and autism, many of whom have experienced significant trauma.

This is a temp-to-perm opportunity based in Chelmsford.


Each young person lives in their own self-contained two-bedroom flat, allowing for highly individualised, person-centred care in a structured residential setting.


About the Role


As a Residential Support Worker, you will provide consistent, trauma-informed care to young people with complex needs, supporting their emotional wellbeing, safety, and development.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Supporting children with learning disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviours

  • Delivering trauma-informed and person-centred care

  • Supporting emotional regulation, positive coping strategies, and daily routines

  • Managing behaviours that may be verbal, physical, or self-injurious

  • Assisting with personal care where required

  • Supporting attendance at education, appointments, and activities



About You as the Support Worker



  • Full UK driving licence essential - can travel to Chelmsford

  • Experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviours

  • Strong resilience, emotional intelligence, and ability to manage difficult days

  • Passionate about supporting children with complex needs and trauma backgrounds

  • Calm, consistent, and committed to providing high-quality care



What's on Offer



  • Temp-to-perm opportunity

  • £13.00 PAYE - £17.20 Umbrella

  • £14.50 per hour when permanent

  • Full-time hours

  • Flexibility to work days or nights

  • Rolling Rota
