CNC Machinist

We are seeking an experienced Sliding Head CNC Machinist to join a busy machine shop facility in Bournemouth for a company who are a lead manufacturer of electric motors.

You will be responsible for programming, setting and operating sliding head CNC lathes to manufacture high-quality, close-tolerance precision components efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities for the CNC machinist role in Bournemouth

CNC Programming

• Program sliding head CNC lathes using G-code and/or offline CAM software


• Optimise cycle times, tooling efficiency and machining performance


• Modify and improve existing programs to resolve issues

Setting & Operation

• Set and prove out sliding head CNC machines (Citizen, Tornos or similar)


• Select and set cutting tools, guide bushes and workholding


• Manufacture components to engineering drawings and tight tolerances


• Monitor performance and adjust offsets as required

Quality & Compliance

• Inspect components using micrometers, verniers and gauges


• Ensure parts meet tolerance and surface finish requirements


• Maintain high Health & Safety standards and regulatory compliance

Requirements for the position of CNC machinist in Bournemouth

• Proven experience as a Sliding Head CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator


• Strong G-code knowledge


• Experience with Citizen, Tornos or similar sliding head lathes


• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings


• Experience producing precision, close-tolerance components
